Considering a few possibly taking a long weekend opportunity, 93,644 as good as you can expect. Essendon’s biggest home crowd and a match that lived up to expectations. It really is a showpiece event on the AFL calendar.
Still seating for walkups available in MCC. It won’t be at capacity today. I’d say the grey day and possibly even the fact MCC was at capacity last year potentially made a few decide to not risk showing up on the day.
Who knows. MCC predicting 90-92K.
If we’re pragmatic, a full strength Collingwood anywhere near their best will be a big ask for Essendon. Thats a Pies win. That’s just the facts (head speaking). But if the Pies are a bit off, and all of Goldstein, Draper & Wright can play well, they might have...
I hope there is a big GA walkup otherwise it would be a disappointing crowd. They’re spruiking 80,000. Sure, 15-20k turnup because it’s a marquee fixture but the walkup will need to be big to ensure it pulls 80,000.
I guess we will find out soon enough 🤔
The other watch is on the Tigers reserved seat show rate. Marquee fixture props it up but their slow start and low expectations will mean it’s lower than any previous years you’d think.
Not entirely correct I believe. Eagles members not planning on going can return their seats for resale.. That’s my understanding. Marvel clubs are this year trialling it for first time. It will take time for behaviours to become habit and more members return their seats for sale to public.
Haven’t we explained with this numerous times? Essendon have ~18,000 member reserved seat holders. At any home game, only about 50% of these members seats are used. The holders might be unwell, interstate, at a wedding, playing community sport or just can’t be bothered going. Therefore, at an...
BZT was the worst defender because he was playing out of position for him. He was playing as the big bodied full back when this isn’t playing a role to his strengths. Apart from 2-3 games where he was outplayed by the monster full forward, BZT was rarely beaten all year. He’s a really decent...
They can’t get 50,000 today. They have too many seat holders. Also, unlike Friday night it won’t have filled all the hospitality suites which always sell better for Friday night games as opposed to afternoon games. I think if it draws 45-46,000 that’s as good as we can expect.
Hope you don’t mind the intrusion. Well said. Win win. BZT will be terrific if he’s the number 2/3 defender. He will slot in very nicely. Duursma giving us two way hard running and defensive standards so exactly what we needed. Trade period working for both clubs 👍
Yep! I get it. It’s been 20 years! Mind you, you get it too in years prior to 2021.
I thought it was a terrific crowd, though it was probably what last years crowd should’ve been. I think two top 4 teams, Dee’s trending should be 40K+. And it was. So, the world was righted last night.
Really?! I reckon 25% of the Bomber throng became disengaged after last weeks performance. Not just the loss, the way they lost and subsequent injuries. Yes it’s round 4 but it’s the ‘Same Old’ Essendon.
I like your enthusiasm but it feels like the season for Bomber fans lost its air last...
I just think Gather round is a great concept and I take a higher moral (!!) position on this and think it’s not so much about getting fixturing optimised with right club, right venue as such.. It’s more about clubs playing their part for the game and the concept and putting club needs and...
S..t happens. Essendon, and Carlton in previous seasons been carrying the can of the big clubs in crap slots in smaller venues. The Tigers had a charmed run with the fixture on the back of a fabulous era on field. The era is over, everything balances again somewhat over time.
Correct. The midfield is our strength. Clearances and contests were a strength from halfway through last year tbh. A few posters around here don’t have a clue what’s actually transpiring at Essendon. As I said, 2024 won’t be the tear it plays finals. It’s a consolidation year. 2025 looks like...
Well, you’re not up with the current team performance then. I’d suggest you watch them play and get your head around what they’re doing. You’re stuck in the past it appears.
I’m glad you’re now conceding, backpedaling on your longtime rant about ‘big bodied midfielder’ issue on any future rebirth. At least you’re conceding. Thats a good start.
As I said, 2024 will be lumpy, similar to last year. Unlikely to make finals imo. I expect the move up the ladder and a...
No, it’s not snake oil, nackers. It’s there for all to see in the match statistics. Essendon is winning games by midfield dominance. Ranked #1 in the AFL after three rounds. Now, we all know they won’t maintain league leading status in this area and will get beaten at stoppages probably this...
Coming from the ‘expert’ who couldn’t stop talking about clearance and midfield contest deficiencies. How off the mark you are.. Time to get on your bike I’d say 😄
Not really. As I’ve said, 2025 will be the year they start to move up the ladder. 2024 is a year of finalising player optimal positions, settling down the side, bedding down structural components and playing younger players back from years of injury.
Port are the better side presently, playing...
