Nice read, but Williams was a strange absence from the report.

If we get someone on the list to replace SOS, I wouldn't bother looking for a 3rd tall forward. It's hardly a high priority position for us. I suspect the coach prefers De Koning or one of our mobile medium's in that role anyway. Just get someone young and talented.

Would be interested to know how Rob Monahan went, since he's meant to be an elite athlete.

    Senior 20. Elijah Hollands

He's the type we need. And the family connection should make it easy to settle in quickly. His genuine flexibility to play both midfield and forward strengthens our list. He'll be behind Martin and probably Cuningham. But with his flexibility to play midfield or forward, I suspect he'll get...

Not sure how high Anastasopoulos is rated, but he's got real pace. I hope we continue to draft at least one player with real pace each year.

    Analysis 2023 Draft Watch

Only seen him play once, but reminded me of a key position Cameron Zurhaar. I don't think I've ever seen a junior key position player play with so much aggression. Harley Reid will be amazing. I think this dude could well be generational.

Perhaps the fact that Young has only played 43 games, and Kemp and Boyd 9 games, might have something to do with a lack of defensive cohesion. No doubt we're missing Newman who's been our best defender this year and Docherty who's hardly played there. Besides, the backline hasn't been the...

I agree with this. He won contested ball at the championships last year. Although his kicking is neat enough, I reckon he's better with his hands.

We need Anderson a lot more than we need Rowell. We've already got way too many inside mids.

Pitto might also be a great guy to have around all the other players. There's probably lots of reasons why some get longer contracts than others.

I know we want to give time to our senior listed players. But having Lemmey plus a ruckman resting forward isn't going to work in these conditions.

Mirkov seems to have one position he wants to tap out to, namely out the back and into the corridor. Not sure that's a great idea when you're kicking against a 5 goal breeze.

Binns probably the most encouraging. Lowlights from that quarter were TDK winning a ruck contest and then kicking it 50 metres backwards to the goal square, leading to a goal. Crocker missing a goal on the rebound from about 10 metres out in space. And did I mention the umpiring?

VFL 2023 - Reserves Game Day discussion Rnds 1 - 22 (Merged threads)

Absolutely awful umpiring. Every time the ball got next to the opposition forward 50, the umpires contrived to give them a free and a shot at goal. Obviously it hasn't trickled down yet to this level, that players dropping to their knees should preclude them getting a 'too high' free.

The conditions are so far from AFL venue conditions, not sure you really learn much from a game like this. Almost as bad as the Preston mud heap where our VFL team used to play.

Missed the first 10 minutes. But liked TDK and Kemp. Seen Paddy get 3 kicks, each of them went straight to the opposition.

I wouldn't mind seeing Honey get a chance at full forward when the big boys aren't making it work. He's got real pace and can mark on the lead. Pretty good set shot.
