Crowd was tremendous in the last quarter. Can’t underestimate how important that was in sneaking over the line. Brilliant to see so many youngsters in the stands, who have generally only seen bad days as North supporters, experience a moment like this.
A few really gutsy efforts by the girls...
Oh well. Regardless of what happened today, we’re probably going to have to beat both Adelaide and Melbourne in the finals to win this thing. We’re not too far off. Someone said last week that these hoodoos have a knack of being busted in finals and that’s what I choose to cling onto today.
It is beyond staggering that a sporting competition as significant as the AFL allows and accepts (and probably even encourages) a commentator to openly barrack for one team in the way Darcy is allowed to. It’s always the same, and always pro-Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond.
That was legitimately hilarious. Her rant was accompanied by three clips: him high-fiving players and encouraging them, him doing a pretty low energy holding the ball action, and - get this - celebrating at the final siren after a 1pt victory. The temerity of the man.
How good is it to have a legitimate Brownlow/coaches award contender, legitimate rising star contender, and maybe as well a legitimate Coleman contender.
There have been other teams that have had a barren 21st century in terms of flags, but they’ve had someone pop up for an individual award...
100% this. A lot of commentary from people who obviously didn’t watch any of the match except maybe a snippet of the last 10s. Even if it should have been a kick, * me they got the lions share of bullshit 50/50s the whole night. 34-23…
Would have been absolute robbery had they pinched it.
Along with the 2015 PF, that 2008 Port game will burn my soul until we win number 5. It really can’t be overstated what an amazing capitulation it was. IIRC we kicked the first 3 goals and it all seemed to be going as expected. Then Port just kept kicking goals out of their arse. Some of their...
2 games at the G is OK (well really it should be the bare minimum - 1 would be a disgrace). It’s funny how the original 2020 fixture gave us three games there, including Carlton and Essendon for the first time in god knows how many years - before the season went to s**t.
Having them spread is probably a better outcome than having 6+ week stretches with no Melb home games, like happens some years. 100% agree though about bringing games back.
Two other things I remember from that game - Nathan Brown giving our cheersquad the bird (before we reeled them in in the second half), and Pickett kicking a ridiculous goal off one or two steps from outside 50.
2 Perth, Taxpayer Park trip, Hawthorn in Launceston is all shithouse. At least the Hobart fixtures are 4 low-drawing and the Marvel home game opponents are decent commercially. Personally not too fussed about no Port at Marvel, they’d probably have rolled us - the revenge and justice here will...
On a positive note, loved the energy that our supporters brought at the ground today. Lots of younger ones too, which is great to see given the shitshow the last few years has been.
That brought back memories of the 2014 semi final. Geelong coming hard with the umpires giving them their customary ride, but we hold on.
No doubt a similar fix will be in against Richmond next week but confident we can get it done again.
Rain could work in our favour tomorrow. Win a low scoring scrap by 15 points like 30-15 would be enough to hold off Geelong, but something like 65-50 I dare say wouldn’t.
Demons up 38-1 against WC at half time. If they really go on with it in the second half, they could jump Brissie into 1st. Would feel much more confident against Melbourne in a possible qualifying final than Brisbane.
