Young guy that might fly under the radar as a pickup for Natte is Bailey Jacobs, depending on how many games he plays, has always had a task picking between basketball at Ballarat and footy but he has very good hands and would be very handy in front of goal.
It's good to know at the moment...
Believe this is still a longer-term discussion at this stage. The good thing short term is the club does have a few decent under 17s coming through but having lost a couple of guns, that always hurts in the short term.
Indeed this is something that senior basketball leagues follow. Match ratio, H2H then percentage in the event that H2H results in a draw seems about right to me.
Harcourt have had some terrific recruits to replace the likes of Huntly, Semmens and the Frost boys. I can't believe they managed to get Braydon Vaz from Golden Square, he's going to be quality.
Dunolly have been busy of late, Trentham have had six signings too but Webber-Mirkin, Ford and...
Kyabram is also a lot closer inbetween two major towns than Maryborough is - half an hour to Echuca and Shepparton vs 55 minutes to Bendigo and Ballarat. To me, I reckon that kind of accessibility to those kinds of towns plays a part in Kyabram's success vs Maryborough's, as does the ageing...
Nah we were together at Mernda in the Northern FNL for a few years. Had a massive turnaround a few years back, was dropped to the two's, then tried down back and had a big second half of the year, wound up winning the best and fairest.
Tried his hand at state league and he did really well, now...
Personally think the signing of Matthew Campbell, while a bit more lowkey than Greene and Tardrew committing full time, is a very nice one. He's had a pretty stunning rise the last few years getting into state footy, he has a great leap on him so he is capable of a few highlight reel moments and...
On the subject of Epping... nice signing getting Field as a spearhead. I think the days of Div 2 teams bouncing back straight up are gone now, but my expectation is Epping should be somewhat around the mark. It's gonna be a good comp next year!
The honest grim reality - and this is a whole town thing - is that it's a largely older population in Maryborough. I don't think a two-tier Bendigo comp is going to solve the longer-term issues of football and netball in the town and surrounding districts regarding a major league team.
Long...
I don't think so - I think a few people now see Morang's year in 2023 as an idea of what might be to come but they recruited super well which really helped their cause. I think unless Laurimar pick up probably another big bodied mid and I think a key defender they won't factor in too much for...
Interesting to see what the old mob are cooking up for sure. This has to be the year for them. Nearest clubs all in div 2 with an eye for trying to get to div 1 sooner rather than later
Stars have done a super nice job with player retention by the looks of it, and picking up Jetta too. Old Eltham picking up Macaffer + Mernda picking up Nipper gives the season some urgency already.
I think this is the way to look at things. Of course hopefully Reservoir and Lalor are able to pick up in due course. Being around the NFNL for years, and then moving up to Bendigo/Maryborough and working around those leagues, you get a new appreciation for a lot of clubs in the NFNL still being...
Think the last clubs that disappeared entirely was Fairfield Park and St Andrews Coburg. Fawkner Park ended up becoming Northern Saints and moved if I recall correctly, while Parkside and Wallan moved, and of course West Preston and Reservoir-Lakeside merged.
There'd be a few who'd be wondering what their arrival would mean surely. Watsonia would be another one pondering you'd think although plenty of positives at the place at the moment.
I think the most important thing is they've remained stable with their coaching appointments too with George staying on. Great to see from their end and I totally agree with this
Just seen the last handful of minutes again. I do respect the umpire making the call she did and backing her judgment. At the end of the day Mernda weren't able to hold the lead they had and Laurimar finished the game better. Cracking game, all told
