This is an incredibly vexed issue in our modern society. I get that. There are so many nuances here, and many strong feelings to boot, because for many of us, it is personal.
MY EXPERIENCE
Indeed it is somewhat personal to me. As a gay bloke, I recall a brief period in my youth (around age...
Eddie was so visually disturbed tonight when discussing this incident. It hurt my spirit to see the manifestation of his pain. I'm not pretending to personally feel it like he and our other indigenous Australians are, but I am left with bewilderment and anger.
Okay, so we know not all people...
The switch of play doesn't work anymore! Teams can see it coming a mile away and move across along the wings and half forward well in time to nullify the desired effect of the play.
It's so anaemic when every other team seems to be adopting the contested ball, tackling/pressure play and using...
They've held a great defensive structure and have a clear plan to render our switches ineffective. Plus their forays forward have been clean.
Much deserved win by the Bulldogs.
The AFL, and indeed all contact sport codes, should create very clear rules that pertain to all aspects of contact between players, especially surrounding the potential for contact to the head of a teammate or an opponent, that readily inform the decisions players should make in a clearly...
IIRC, Richmond generate the majority of their goals from defensive 50 turnovers, just like that one.
Gaff basically gave them that goal (played right to one of their key strengths).
Oscar.
Darling had a purple patch.
Brander continuing to show he belongs
Kelly showed it especially in the 2nd
Barrass is putting in a consistent season. Rock.
Sheed with 3 in a few minutes was good to see.
They were down a few but Rotham, Shep, Witho, Redden, and Duggo made it work.
Did...
Basil is just a harmless big goofball. I don't mind him on 92.9 with Xav and Jenna tbh. Xavier is hilarious and without him Basil would sink but he's not all bad.
Why is there not much discussion about this? Put the replay on Kayo and thought maybe he said "THUMP!", but I can clearly hear that he word ends in a harsh "ck" sound, as in *. It's possible he said "THUNK!" and had a slight constriction in his nasopharynx/throat behind the nose (like how...
You are right...this is the subtext of my post - pointing out that the loss of their leadership likely had a significant effect on the performance is an absolute blight on the rest of the more senior/seasoned players.
I mentioned this exact point in the gameday thread.
The effect of their on field leadership cannot be understated, especially when the tide turned in that third quarter.
It was especially noticeable with the rebounding/attacking function of the backline - generally Barass and Gov defend well...
I think we are underestimating the impact of not having Shuey or Hurn out there.
The onfield leadership those two provide is a massive part of being able to play our best footy.
So I'm banging the steering wheel with delight at hearing our third goal, went into the local to pick up some booze, wait in line a few minutes, get back in the car and I hear the Saints kicking their third goal and Hurn is off with a calf?!
A real WTF moment.
Oscar is just one of those blokes who, if you watch everything he does across a game, you will battle to find something he actually does wrong.
Almost every movement to the ball or his opponent is perfection.
Not obsessed.
I never blame bad umpiring for a win or a loss.
But that last few minutes and especially the missed HTB was blatant poor umpiring.
Brisbane were robbed.
I never blame bad umpiring...never.
Until now. The umpires handed Geelong that win on a silver platter in the last 4 minutes.
All calls went against the Lions and that missed HTB was the pinnacle of it.
