Are we really facing the cliff?

Ha....know what your saying, but I think that is where Bigeasy was coming from that it's not as bad as other supporters make out (Ie; his balcony comment) I agree also on your evidence, I think we we will face a downturn but it won't be as dramatic as many expect. (we may not even go back if...

Are we really facing the cliff?

I dont think there will be a cliff, but i do expect a dip in ladder position and enough to significantly affect Premiership chances. For mine 2016 is our best shot for a long time considering state of list and assuming players stay fit. Its all well and good to name a heap of youngsters on...

    Your Best Sporting Acheivement.

Yep. Especially when you add some elite players into the mix as well you go from high to low very quickly.....

    Your Best Sporting Acheivement.

Playing first grade cricket for North Hobart at 17yo. My biggest memories of cricket though was after being a level or two above same age group growing up, found when moving on to play/train against quality 1st grade including State squad players a huge leap of which I would never have been...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

That for mine the perfect style outcome/approach in theory, but I think might be a harder reality than some might suspect. I think we either compromise our chances this year by using young talented players who need/want opportunity (but may not deliver as much), or we compromise the future by...

    Prediction Most improved/biggest decline

Most Improve; Atley Brown Most Decline (disregarding veterans); Hansen Thomas Think Brown and Atley will be quality players when fit and with more confidence. I know Hansen and Thomas are quality at their best, but I worry due to form and injuries whether they can reproduce it.

Moved Thread #1: Majak Daw -

Settle down....ha. Daw will play if and when he deserves it, so far that hasn't been the case. It might in 2016 and good luck to him - it makes his prospects better and ours potentially. Majak has many obvious qualities but many obvious deficiencies - that gap has to close significantly IMO.

Moved Thread #1: Majak Daw -

I don't think we will win a premiership, I think we lack elite midfield quality - we have depth but not enough top end. However i'd like us to do all we can to achieve that result, whilst keeping an eye on development, hence my thread. I think we are too flaky game to game to achieve top 4, I...

Official Club Stuff North to change leadership?

Makes sense BE, fair enough. Won't happen though IMO. I also think our dual vice thing is unnecessary.

    A Very IUB Farewell

Of course, but I think you will find the mods (rightly) dealt with this.

    A Very IUB Farewell

I have no idea on that but i'm pretty sure the mods did this or certainly requested those who can to make it happen (and understandably so)

Official Club Stuff North to change leadership?

If you want Swallow replaced that's fine (even if I don't agree), but based on next gen approach why is Petrie Vice not Swallow or someone younger? For mine it contradicts what you are trying to achieve. I strongly doubt that your proposed approach is a likely outcome but who knows.

    A Very IUB Farewell

I think the mods right the right call. I hope he/she comes back but if so to focus more on footy when posting.

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

I'm guessing you missed a "not" before the sort of players (as in we don't want that type rather than do), and if so yeah i'd say it's a fair call - but also a difficult situation especially if they deserve games off VFL form but aren't able to get them due us prioritizing older/near retiring...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

Yes I agree. I think there should be opportunities for Scott to allow players to continue development without overly risking our chances of short term success. I do believe however we will need a very positive start to the season to allow us to have that flexibility. If we don't I think the...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

How much we focus on winning number 5 whilst maintaining healthy development for the future (unlike the Ross Lyon approach) is the question, no one is suggesting B as would be ridiculous.

Analysis Unpopular North Board (Football) Opinions

I thought the three tall set up worked well last year, each seemed to compliment the others and was a good spread of good games by all 3 when one would stand up if the other was struggling (outside the prelim sadly when all three were disappointing). I would be very surprised if we moved away...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

I'm happy to go all out as well, but I do have concerns what the ramifications might be. Especially regarding younger players leaving and us dropping down further than we otherwise would. Maybe that assessment can be made mid season depending on how we are travelling.

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

You might smell it. Do our players and coaches? Most likely. (well at least they should) It still doesn't mean we are able to handle VFL players performing who want (need?) a spot to ensure we don't plummet after our vets retire, or potentially improve our chances of 5 this year or beyond...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

Exactly my thoughts. One is better than none regardless of fallout after. I'd rather we go very hard for number 5 right now. I keep reading players need games etc but for mine I'd rather focus on 5 rather than hoping a younger player delivers on what "should" happen to develop etc. Our time...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

Yes mate we appear to be topping up for a genuine crack and prioritizing older players rather than focusing on (potentially better) younger players. Thing is, should we? How hard do we apply flag over future? If we miss number 5 is it worth the risk of Daw, Wood, Dumont and co staying in 2s...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

I didn't say we would be looking at a Laidley rebuild, and I agree there. Even so, assuming a fit squad it will be very difficult for Scott to do both so he has to choose. For me it's go flat out for a flag, and if young talent misses out who otherwise should be getting games if in a different...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

I agree with the bold. But that is not the method of teams rebuilding or looking to the future who prioritise development over success. (hence older players are discarded even if going ok) Freo have young talent yes (all clubs do) but if they miss this year I suspect a period of down for them...

Opinion How much should we focus on number 5?

OK, we are clearly heading the right way and looking at our list we 'should' be a definite threat this year. If we aren't something has clearly gone wrong and changes should be made. But that's not the question. Assuming a fit squad and results going our way as expected, how much priority do we...

Analysis Unpopular North Board (Football) Opinions

Yes Swallows disposal seriously lacks penetration. So? Ling had poor skills AFL wise and it seemed to work for the Cats. It's the best person and leader who should be Captain, on field deeds are just one component. Point being I like Jack. He may well deserve and be Captain one day, in fact...

Moved Thread #1: Majak Daw -

No sub might enable Brad to play 2 rucks but considering the talls we have already in best 22 then I doubt we will drop a mid to create a spot for Majak. 3KPFs and 2 rucks is definitely too top heavy, especially with an aging 2 up front. If we drop a fwd to play 2 rucks and 2 KPFs like you say...

    Pick the 2016 B&F winner.

Spot on regarding Jack. As for the question of thread I think it's more about who wins second than first as if Goldstein holds form he will win again. If Wells can claim second it will significantly help our chances to have number 5 :thumbsu:
