    Goals 100+

    Another factor is that while it could be exciting to watch a gun forward, those teams rarely won when it counted. Dunstall obviously did, but his team was gigantic. But Lockett never did. Modra might have been exciting, but Jarman was FF by the time they won. You look at the top-10...

    Are we capable of doing what the Hawks did this year?

    The fundamental difference is that the Hawks had a veteran midfield with the stamina to play 4 quarters. Crawford, Mitchell, Sewell, Hodge, Lewis, Ladson, Bateman, McGlynn. Only Lewis and McGlynn haven't had 4-5 preseasons. Throw in Brown, Guerra, Osborne, Vandenburg who played finals or a...

    Edwards

    There is no kid with an AFL engine. They run 7-10km in a junior match, that doesn't match Barry Hall let alone the elite mids who nudge 18-19km a game. It takes multiple preseasons to build those stamina levels. We have seen it before our eyes with Foley and how every season he has gotten...

    Brett Deledio to play for Richmond Cricket Club in Twenty20 game

    Was offered a rookie contract. Basically a scheme to try and keep some blokes out of the clutches of the AFL. Cricket loses huge amount of kids in the southern states. Pretty much why all the fast bowlers are from NSW and QLD - rugby doesn't like tall, spindly blokes but the AFL loves them.

    Cartledge

    The bottom line is that Graham has never played a decent game of footy for Coburg. Even without ruckmen for most of last season the club refused to promote him going with Tuck instead. He got some encouragement games at the end of the season and promoted because of his workrate. In...

    We've added height and skills but somethings missing

    That stuff tends to emerge in a bloke over time, not something you see a lot of in junior kids unless they are complete nuff-nuffs. I doubt any of us would have picked private school kiddie Daniel Jackson as a thug ... but every man and his dog wanted to thump him by round 22 this year...

    Weaver's phantom predictions... we got picks 1, 5, 10, 18 + 17 from the superdraft!

    I've got no time for that bloke. How dare someone have an opinion on BF :rolleyes:

    Miller on SEN

    I am not sure. Essendon are all over him according to pre-draft rumours.

    Final PSD Poll

    Wishful thinking board. Too many people persist with the belief that kids will step straight out of the junior ranks into the seniors. Particularly big blokes. Happens once in a blue moon.

    When will the league get a Tassie team?

    But growing from a low base. The 0.6% population growth translates to about 3,500 people a year. It is also ignores that the population is rapidly ageing. Queensland in contrast accounts for 1/3rd of Australian population growth. Brisbane and the Gold Coast are the two fastest growing...

    Weavers Carlton Comeback

    I like many others had Franklin as a preseason number 1. He was the hyped player coming into the season. The question was always how far do you mark down a guy who did nothing and embarassed himself in the season just passed? Tambling was moved too high on the basis of his domination in Div...

    Previous rookie drafts

    Yep. Lots of people confuse the rookie Brad Miller that Richmond took with the Melbourne one. Two different blokes, just the same name.

    PSD & Rookie Draft Rules

    The PSD is legal niceties related to restraint of trade. The topic has been covered do a search if you are interested.

    Port's Profit

    Not just numbers. There is an obscene quirk in the rules which allow 'community' clubs to pay less tax on gaming revenue than 'corporates'. Also to claim their 'expenses' (Plasma TVs etc) as right-offs.

    Daniel Connors

    He had 1/100th of the talent that people imagine he had. He was an over-hyped cult figure who played 1 good game rather by accident. When he made a mistake off-field no one in the league thought he was good enough for a second chance.
  16. W

    Daniel Connors

    The difference is that Connors has shown more at VFL level that almost any other prospect we've had other than Foley. He has certainly shown more at that level than Tambling, Meyer etc. Suggesting Connors is a good prospect who can make the grade isn't the blind optimism that is with someone...

    Great competition for spots in 22

    Hyde's season may depend on how competitve we are. If we are winning games and in the hunt for the 8 then Hyde will play most weeks. The coach will want him in because he follows order, plays hard, can play man-on-man, and has an AFL body and AFL fitness. People writing off Hyde may have...

    Final PSD Poll

    The PSD takes about 2 minutes. Then the Swans and Lions have the chance to list locals prior to the rookie draft. The Lions have suggested they won't and the Swans generally don't have too much to choose from. Then the rookie draft works exactly the same as the main draft - it will...

    Port's Profit

    Well they can afford to be smug - their team keeps winning. It is the Carlton, Essendon and Hawthorn (and Richmond) supporters who can't let results speak for themselves who feel the need to bang the drum and shout loudest.
  20. W

    Pfeiffer?

    Collard is a forward pocket goalsneak. Pfeiffer more a natural wingman. Most of Pfeiffer's game is based around running - getting back to help the defence, pushing forward. If he hasn't been working and doesn't have fitness he isn't much use to anyone. Also the rookie draft will have...

    Port's Profit

    I think Clinton Casey's huge mistake was to think that footy is like every other business. You borrow money, invest it, then sit back and wait for the increased profits. In footy increased spending does not mean better results. Borrowing to fund increased spending can be fatal. I like...

    Port's Profit

    Does SA have pokies? If not that would explain a bit. Pokies are a bit of a free gift to the Vic clubs (and Swans). It was reported that something like $18m goes into the 10 clubs. Adjust for that and Port making cash on footy alone doesn't look so bad.

    When will the league get a Tassie team?

    Also strategically there is no need to go to Tassie. Western Sydney and the Gold Coast are up for grabs. There are mutliple sports there and a battle for the entertainment dollar. If the AFL don't go to Tassie they won't lose those supporters. The NRL, A-League, Super-14s, NBA etc are not...

    VFL = Reserves

    We do select the Coburg side. Jade Rawlings is coach. Many good Coburg players have left because they have been denied games they merited and been played out of position. The idea that Richmond players are being denied opportortunites is a myth with only Petterson, Clingan and Hartigan...

    Great competition for spots in 22

    Numbers is half the battle. The Swans won a permiership and you'd struggle to say any of their mids was a match winner. Even this time last year people were saying that Geelong's midfield was even and lacked a star - until Bartel and Ablett stepped up. In the past we've had 4-5 mids, some...

    VFL = Reserves

    If you could name one thing that would be different between the current Coburg set-up and a future Richmond reserves (other than the jumper) I would take your motherhood statement with more respect. About the only real difference would have to go without a Coburg reserves side. And quite...

    VFL = Reserves

    This is a bit of an over-excited myth on our part. Craigieburn will be training ground. There are no plans for carparking, cafeteria, fencing, ticket-booths, coaching boxes, stats boxes, timekeepers boxes, umpires rooms, public toilets, a room for president's lunches, a bar, a liqour licence...

    PSD & Rookie Draft Rules

    No. A bloke who has never been listed must nominate for the National draft and if not picked up they are automatically elligable for the PSD and Rookie drafts (depending on age criteria). The only person who can choose which draft he nominates for is someone who is delisted. He can choose...

    VFL = Reserves

    A ground, a training facility, a volunteer organisation to run the club, and an (admitedly small) contribution to the cost of running the club. The other part is the top-up players. The backbone of good VFL/Reserves teams are the experienced VFL players. Getting those blokes to play for a...
