Review Cats demolish North by 75 points.

We heard for years about Clarko's devotion to the methods of Bill Belicheck and that he was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers. Tragically* Clarko found out the hard way that the emperor had no clothes.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2024, Part I

I think teams would absolutely bite on that deal if they thought he was the difference between a premiership or not. Win one and the last 2-3 years of a terrible deal become forgivable.

I’ve never heard him be bitter but I’ve absolutely heard him give some pretty gratuitous criticism of Stanley’s work rate.

Preview Cats V North Sun April 14 1pm @ GMHBA

I think what makes this funnier is that Riewoldt’s philosophy is If You Are Not Winning You Just Need To Work Harder, and he clearly saw Stanley as someone who was too soft to embrace that and thus was doomed to failure. Ten years on Riewoldt not only has to face up to the fact Stanley won a...

Hardwick and Clarkson - AFL Legends?

Not sure if it’s just nostalgia but guys like Blight and Barassi had/have a cultural legacy too - integral to the life of the game. Hardwick and Clarko might have fourth acts in their careers that get them there but it hasn’t happened yet.

Review Cats down Doggies by 4 points to go 4-0

By current midfield I meant the guys who are fit. PFD is absolutely in a category of his own.

Review Cats down Doggies by 4 points to go 4-0

Couple of times late Atkins attacked loose balls at stoppages in a way that no one else in our current midfield can (or at least does). Reminded me of his absolute best form from mid-2022. Happy for both to play at the moment.

Review Cats down Doggies by 4 points to go 4-0

Great win given the midfield we had out there - Dogs only really got on top in the second half (really the last quarter) and that has to be in part that some guys started getting leggy. To do it without Holmes getting involved either is hugely encouraging. Rhys instrumental, as with Conway last...

Preview Cats v Doggies Sat April 6th 810 pm @ AO - Gather Round

Mannagh playing so little football is entirely a product of Geelong’s decision making. If they’re worried about his match fitness play him in the VFL last week and use Tuohy as the carry over.

    Simon Lloyd departing

I think that's maybe a bit unfair - I can see a club baulking at appointing him CEO just because of the lack of commercial experience rather than as any negative comment on his own ability.

Review Cats drown Hawks by 36 points in Tommas 350

    I had it possible Worpel 5, 4 Duncan 5 Holmes 4 Henry 3 and 3 Bruhn 2, 1 Stengel 2, 1 Yours looks likelier, though!

Review Cats drown Hawks by 36 points in Tommas 350

A maths genius can correct me but does the AFLCA break down into one coaching having Duncan BOG and the other not including him at all, and that dynamic reversed for Holmes?

Review Cats drown Hawks by 36 points in Tommas 350

That might explain Bruhn's reluctance to kick forward after a while. Thought Parfitt was instrumental in the third quarter rally.

Review Cats drown Hawks by 36 points in Tommas 350

Bruhn’s tendency to jink sideways once already clear and then handball sideways is infuriating. If he went north-south even 10% more he’d be our best midfielder.

Review Cats drown Hawks by 36 points in Tommas 350

I broadly agree but I thought some of his ruck work was instrumental in the third - got the footy moving forward and outside Hawthorn’s structure.

News Clubs operating league-sanctioned drug testing program to evade gameday detection

Doesn’t address the practical problem of the AFLPA and is essentially meaningless - what standard are we setting? Zero tolerance as Australian jurisdictions steadily move to decriminalization? Good luck!

Can I suggest that's because there are life and death consequences on a mine site and that is clearly not the case for a game of footy?

VFL VFL 2024 - Geelong & the greater league

But that's because it is men against boys, right? Look at the top 10 disposal winners - they're physically mature guys who have played a decent amount of VFL footy (in a few cases 80+ games). We only have a handful of guys who fit that description (Hardie, Jeka, VDH, Herbert, Capiron) and they...

VFL VFL 2024 - Geelong & the greater league

Wiltshire did a couple of smart things early but he looked knackered in the second half. Willis played the first half on ball and had once nice clearance but otherwise was very quiet, his two goals were well taken but came from pretty egregious turnovers. Neale spent some time in the ruck and...

VFL VFL 2024 - Geelong & the greater league

I think the back six (with the exception of Bews) have been solid, Jeka and Humphries both look good additions. Midfield was competitive to half time, I think moving Knevitt off the wing didn’t work and O’Sullivan was better in defence. We’ve been able to transition the ball pretty well, final...
