Bidding war was always going to happen - gun KPPs entering their prime don't normally just fall into the market. This is how the trade system SHOULD work - the seller has multiple options to entertain, and can sell to the highest bidder.
Scrap the "player nominates one destination club" BS and...
If you look at Pick 6 in isolation it really is rubbish. Looking at the whole top ten gives you a better picture of the overall talent - even then you start to see that clearly Carlisle is worth Pick 5.
LOL - You've failed miserably unless you give up #5 for Carlisle - it's really that simple.
Yep - If I were Richo I would be utterly furious - list management team totally screwed him around.
Absolutely. Can't believe the Dogs didn't come to the party as well - surely the Boyd contract has...
If picks are so damn important, then why the hell has Carlton, Melbourne and Richmond (though finally coming good) - stunk the competition up for so god damn long? When will people wake up and see that whilst they are very important, they are not the panacea for a s**t list.
Personally, I hope Carlisle goes to the Hawks and then wins the Norm Smith when the Hawks inevitably make their 4th GF in a row.
Saints are such a pissant club. Very well maneuvered by Disco.
Sorry for the intrusion here but you can't be serious? The overrating of draft picks is astounding - you are telling me that two pimply faced 18 year olds who very well not make it aren't worth the one of the best midfielders in the game??
The irony is that's delusional.
Price hasn't won a post season game as a starter and looked shaky out there today. I actually prefer Stroman over Price for Gm 5.
Annoyed that Dickey got pulled so early though - his knuckle ball was on point and we were 7-1 up. Gibbons was just looking for an excuse to use Price as reliever IMO.
The irony here is that draft picks are incredibly safe in so far as, for the list manager, because that untried kid COULD be a star, it'll take a few seasons at least to find out and that's how the public is conditioned - draft picks = rebuild and hopeful premiership success is the ultimate...
Gillon will call Little soon and we'll be packing off Carlisle to the Saints + pick 4 and an apology note to the rest of the competition for being difficult to deal with.
If the AFL said players can't nominate their club of choice it would automatically fix the issue of compensation. Get some "no trade clubs or states" written into the players contract and that's that.
BTW I'm not criticising Geelong - whatever, they did what had to be done to get the deal over the line - it still doesn't change the fact that Adelaide got royally screwed.
Hey guys
What are your thoughts on what fair value is for Dangerfield? Personally, I think no matter what compensation is given by Geelong, you're going to lose out (get screwed).
Dangerfield is worth at minimum IMO - A top ten pick AND a gun young player.
Picks are so overrated by the...
Hope your club stands firm - sometimes you just have to make a stand, even if it means getting squat. Enough is enough, your club isn't a bargain bin for other clubs to peruse at their leisure.
As with my team - Essendon, if the Saints refuse to cough up pick #5 for Carlisle then I hope we send...
One more thing - if Saints don't pony up, I would rather we just let Jake go for nada. We got royally screwed with the Ryder trade and we just have to make a stand here.
Our club is not a ******* bargain bin for opposition clubs to peruse at their leisure.
We got screwed with Ryder - isn't that bloody obvious? A player under contract who just had the best year of his career and we ended up trading him under duress because his filthy manager played one of the most dirty tricks you'll ever see.
Just admit it - your club is trying to have their cake...
100% agree. Further, a top 3 pick wouldn't be enough - you could have 5 #1 picks and I would bet against all of them not being as could as Dangerfield.
First thing is the AFL should stop this player X 'nominates' club Y bullshit. As I said previously, you completely kill the market with this...
Don't read the HS comments section of a particular article saying "Pick 5" is off the table...makes you feel like punching the computer screen...I should have known better
No it friggen would not!!! This is a guy who is an automatic CHB lock at St Kilda who has PROVEN to be AA quality when played there for a full season - he has also PROVEN to have the ability to go forward, take a s**t load of marks and kick a shed load of goals on his day.
Oh and did I mention...
AFL trading is completely broken. What other professional sport is there where the players have almost all the leverage? How can a player just 'nominate' what club he wants to go to? It effectively kills the market and almost ALWAYS ends up in the selling club getting screwed.
Take Dangerfield...
Port Adelaide got away with it because Ryder pretty much backed us into a corner the traitorous bastard! His manager dropped the 'deformed babies' right before the EF - I'll never forgive that, disgraceful behaviour.
Can't believe the amount of people who think Carlisle isn't worth Pick #5 on his own - he's worth MORE than that FFS. Pick #5 outright or GAGF.
A ready made CHB who can also swing forward and kick a bag, entering his prime years. St Kilda are offering him $700k p.a. on a what was it? 4/5 year...
