I was asked by Bushy at the Roosters to umpire Moorooka's reserves on the weekend against Wynnum. While not having any great affiliation with the club anymore (I coached the Friday night team last year) I did my best to be as fair as possible. Wynnum's umpire was an absolute pleasure to work...
I can promise you we won't be stacking. The vast majority will be those that played last week. The only senior/reserves guys that will get a run are those coming back from injury/unavailability and need a run. We potentially have one or two new players to the club as well. We'll see at...
I can't speak highly enough of the Collingwood Park guys on Friday night. Bringing both teams in after the game and having a few laughs before we left the ground really capped off the night. Although we battled hard we just weren't good enough but we keep seeing good new signs from all our...
As the Roosters Friday night coach I've come to realise this league (Div 5) is strong, and after playing Ferny Grove and Jindalee we are well aware of where we sit. We currently select those who are unavailable Saturday and those that have missed out on a reserves game. Given the tough...
Come on mate, still plenty of time to stack our Div 5 team. I'm all for it but I doubt the rest of the coaching staff will be keen. We'll keep plugging away.
Ferny Grove were much too good for us tonight. They had some big bodies and appeared well drilled and had a lot of chat. Our boys tried hard but we just had too much inexperience. I'm sure we'll continue to improve as the boys play together a bit more.
Hey Lads (and Ladies),
I'm the Griffith-Moorooka Roosters Div 5 coach for 2017. Just wanted to wish all teams an injury free and enjoyable season ahead. I hope your players are as excited as ours for tonight.
If you're a bit worried about body size/ability etc I'd go with QFA Div5. I'll be coaching a Brisbane suburban club so feel free to private message me if you like.
I personally don't see the point in stopping anyone from leaving that doesn't want to be there, unless they owe the club money. One thing I've learnt over my last 17 odd years in amateur club footy, match payments eventually kill footy clubs by and don't necessarily win you premierships.
Most didn't realise it at the time but it was all done the wrong way. The exodus of people from that period is remarkable. The disillusioned ones are slowly starting to trickle back now which is great. 95% of that team aren't even at the club anymore.
I think the less said about the last three years the better. After coming back after a few years away I'm blown away by the transformation of the club. We're definitely heading in the right direction and the future looks bright with a great bunch of people.
I wonder where everyone would play if there were zero player payments (With the exception of kitchen upgrades by the coach of course). One can dream I suppose.........
If there are any clubs struggling for numbers I've slowly developed itchy feet after intending to have a year off. Not a completely useless footballer, but certainly won't set the world on fire. Also pretty injury prone! Private message me if this fits your club and you're close-ish to the...
Any word on a roster for the QAFA (B) yet? I'm looking to play in this competition but am also a shift worker and need to make some requests for days off to play. Most games are Friday nights aren't they?
This is going back a few years when Charles Beaumont was playing with us (ex Scotch student, Tas rep, Clarence premiership player etc) but I remember someone from St.Pats yelling out "not bad for $300 a game" after he took a reasonable grab. Funny thing was that he was sponsoring the club for...
If this is true, which I have my doubts, this is a great pick up from the club. I'm no longer with the Thistles due to a move interstate a couple of years ago but still keep a keen eye on how they're going. I remember playing with a 15 year old Dan Ellis and his old man when we were short in...
I've seen this happen in many leagues in 2 different states. If you insist on trying to buy a premiership eventually the bottom falls out of the club when the money dries up. You need to be willing to put up with some pain for some long term success.
The Roosters are going along nicely. Very good numbers with many new faces. To be honest we wont know how good we are until round 5 so we won't pump ourselves up too much just yet.
We finished with 4 senior wins last year. More importantly we made major improvements on club culture and how we went about it on the field. We've been training since October and the least we've had at training so far is 35 and the most around 45 (including on average 6-10 ladies players as...
Cheers Jubair, exactly.
We have great numbers so far but no major superstars, just a good dedicated group wanting to improve themselves and the club. Just setting the foundations for some future success hopefully.
42 at the first Roosters training (6 ladies mind you) and quite a number of new faces, some from other clubs. Things are looking pretty good at the Chook pen at this stage.
Just another reminder that the Roosters kick off training tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 6pm. Both Men's and Women's players have been invited to come along. All welcome, even just to come for a look.

It's only once a week to begin with. We have a super bunch of blokes ready and keen to improve themselves. The talk has been extremely positive and I think everyone around the club realises we've turned the place around and there are some exciting years ahead.
Hey guys, hope the off season is treating you well.
The Griffith-Moorooka Roosters begin pre-season on Tuesday, October 16 at Moorooka so this is just a shameless plug. We're not trying to actively poach players, but if you're keen for a change take a look at the link...
About 20 of us Roosters are heading up to Cairns on the Friday morning of AFL Grand Final weekend and coming back on the Monday evening. I believe Caboolture are there at the same time. Could be an entertaining weekend.
