Moved Thread The Meteoric Rise of the 30+yo Footballer

I think fitness is just getting better year on year and age isn't as big a detriment as it was. Geelong probably took it to the extreme, but a lot of their older players don't play old. Blicavs looks like he could run around for another ten years, he hasn't lost anything. Hawkins just keeps...

List Mgmt. High 5 re-sign: Atkins, Guthrie, Hawkins, Smith & Tuohy

What a player Atkins has become. As hardworking and honest as they come. I am so happy for him, seems like a great humble bloke.

It's Happening Ross Lyon is Back to Coach St Kilda - Presser Link in OP

Yeah they are full of it. This is like that ex partner who shacks up with someone like two week after the break up but claims that they had no communication about it prior. the process was too fast, like immediately Lyons name was being thrown out there.

    Have Geelong become too powerful?

There is only one club with Brad Close so sure.

    Universal Love Brad Close

His sense of awareness is incredible. Seems to know exactly where players are. I also love how just composed and cool he is. Even when he does something he doesn't seem to celebrate too much or anything like that. He is great.

    Have Geelong become too powerful?

Covid helped Geelong make the Grand Final. That break and the shortened season helped them tremendously. And 2021 I doubt Geelong would have done any better against Melb at the MCG.

Analysis Hawthorn rebuild: are they tanking?

Aren't they just doing what North did a couple of years ago? Tanking is different really. Its deliberately throwing games. I don't think Mitchell is going to approach matches with the mindset of "better lose this game oh yeah." He will be trying to win games as much as possible. It is good for...

Review Winners and Losers of the Trade Period 2022

While I agree with you to a certain extent, Sydney made a Grand Final and didn't lose anyone. Saints clearly have issues and didn't do anything to address said issues. I think Cordy wil be quite good though.

    Best Midfield 2023?

Cotchin yes. Martin nah, once he gets his head right he will be raring to go.

Coach Rank your best Coaches, of the current lot end of 2022, excluding Ratten!!

Exactly. A lot of coaches don't even make a grand final, let alone consistently. That alone puts him up there. The bad record doesn't help of course, but it is still something.

Analysis The go home factor, equalisation, draftees requesting trades

I would argue as well that theres no issues with equalisation, the issue is with how well clubs are run which just makes them unattractive to players. Theres no coincidence that the clubs that struggle to get players in or retain players are those who are struggling, on field and in some cases...

Coach Rank your best Coaches, of the current lot end of 2022, excluding Ratten!!

I've always been on the Chris Scott bandwagon; I've gotten so much s**t for defending him in previous years :P But you are right, supporters are just fickle.

Review Winners and Losers of the Trade Period 2022

I disagree. Maybe not as well as Richmond or Brisbane who have done extremely well. But those young players mean that Geelong has great depth, which means they can rest older players throughout the situation like they did this year. And who knows, Bowes or Bruhn could really step up and play a...

    Ratten To Be Sacked

They didn't have a great year, but they weren't far off the mark. Lost a couple of narrow games. Win those and they probably make finals.

    That’s late. After trade period??

Prediction Delisted Free Agents - where do they end up?

Liam stoker should get somewhere, has a lot of talent. Narkle I am not sure on.

    Delisted Sydney Stack [delisted]

What happened to Stack? A couple of years ago people were talking about him being a future star. Is it just all the off field issues and attitude problem? If thats the case, surely someone will have a go at him.

    Best Midfield 2023?

Its Melb for sure. Followed by Brisbane, assuming Dunkley plays well. And then Richmond.

Strategy Review & Improve The Draft & Trade Rules - You Rewrite Them !!

So what if one year the top two are from another state other than Victoria? Say West Coast and Freo. And a player really wants to go home for family reasons. Tough s**t basically?

Analysis The go home factor, equalisation, draftees requesting trades

Is poaching bad though? At the end of the day those players are being paid well, they aren't being forced out, it is all their own choice.

Strategy Review & Improve The Draft & Trade Rules - You Rewrite Them !!

I like the idea if a player is under contract, he can nominate a state he wants to be traded to, but not the club. That way the club can get the best possible deal for the player while the contract exists. Uncontracted players not much can be done really.

    Have Geelong become too powerful?

Geelong was critised in 2021 for having a slow gameplan. And they changed it this year. So not really sure how the standing rule helped them in the first season. Many players brought it up as part of a reason for their success this season, and commentators constantly mentioned it. Are they all...

Review Winners and Losers of the Trade Period 2022

Geelong recruited for the future. If they can get Clark, thats a midfield of Clark, Bruhn, Holmes, Parfitt just as a starting base. With De Koning, Close, Miers, Stengle etc etc that is already the beginnings of a really good young team while still being able to compete for the flag. It was an...

Review Winners and Losers of the Trade Period 2022

None of the players they got will help them immediately, except maybe Bowes. Its just fast tracking the inevitable rebuild.

    Have Geelong become too powerful?

Two months ago, Geelong wouldn't win anything because they only make finals due to home ground advantage so they would be found out come finals time. Now they are too powerful. The reality is, a heap of strong teams got made stronger (Geelong, Richmond, Port, Collingwood, Brisbane). So the...

Traded Ollie Henry - Traded to Geelong as part of a reported 3-way deal (details tbc)

99% of Geelong supporters won't care. Seriously. Geelong just won the flag and had one of their greatest trading periods for the club ever. Paying overs for Henry won't change that. I really don't understand the point of rubbing it in. Grats, collingwood did well. But seriously, none of us...

Traded Ollie Henry - Traded to Geelong as part of a reported 3-way deal (details tbc)

I am content Geelong overpaid considering how well everything else has gone. And how cheap they got players like Stengle and Stewart. The ledger is still balanced the other way really.

Review Winners and Losers of the Trade Period 2022

It does feel as if pretty much all the clubs that did well are already strong clubs.

Traded Ollie Henry - Traded to Geelong as part of a reported 3-way deal (details tbc)

Ultimately, Geelong got most of their targets, kept Pick 7, kept next years first. Regardless, it was a very good trade period. Probably the best for Geelong in a long long time. Opposition supporters can think otherwise, that is fine. All I know is I am quite happy with the results :P

Review Winners and Losers of the Trade Period 2022

Geelong, Richmond, Brisbane. Port also did very well, and Melb did as good as could be expected. I thnk if Freo had landed Sharpe they would have done extremely well as well, but they lost quite a few players who were playing well so it is a little hard to judge for them.
