In the heat of the moment, she sees a player kick a goal, thinks of an insulting comparison and blurts it out. That's what kids do and what they always have done.
It's nasty, but it's likely she wasn't even aware of the racial connotations of the slur.
Not a bad week. At this stage, my biggest regret has been Dangerfield. Another sub-100 score this week.
Also, very fortunate to have offloaded Duffield and Walker last week. Seemed a bit reckless at the time...
Duffield and Walker continue to disappoint with their 70-90 scores. Duffield's the bigger disappointment as there were plenty of decent options around his price.
Dangerfield finally scored well, but his possessions are still well down on last year. He didn't really explode until round 5 last...
I picked such an unbalanced team I really needed my premiums to deliver. Dangerfield and Walker are killing me and mid-prices have done nothing.
Watson and Selwood were disappointing this week, but they were great in the first 2 rounds. I also had to cop Varcoe's 8 points.
The only saving...
Bad week. Watts, Dangerfield, Franklin and Duffield all disappointing. Beams late withdrawl hurt also.
Mid-pricers and rookies all played like their price tags (with the exception of Goodes).
Dangerfield is one of the few players I've kept since I first made my team so I can't really complain.
Tex was the late change for me so I'm glad he scored reasonably well from limited opportunities.
Wright was an interesting one. There was a bit of buzz on here about him, but that went dead...
In terms of the trophies, the only thing I think we should make more of is the minor premiership - the McClelland Trophy.
The NRL and A-League both have on-field presentations when the minor premiers are decided, but there's nothing like that in the AFL. No prize money, nothing.
Well O'Meara, Crouch and Viney are the obvious ones. Simply because as a group, they're about $200K cheaper than they would have been if not for pre-selections and father son wheeling and dealing.
The most expensive rookie I have is Goodes at $128K, but he's also a DPP who'll open up my...
I took a different approach.
It seems that nearly all the rock solid premiums this year (avg 110+) are in the midfield, so I've ignored the value selections like Ball and Moloney and gone straight for the $600K+ players. I've filled the gaps with rookies.
The only problem I'm having is...
Martin, Tippett, Goodes and Mumford all hurt me last year.
I always like to take a punt on Sylvia... Even at 27, I'm still waiting for him to have his 'breakout' year.
But even if he doesn't, he's at least servicable in your forward line (should average in the 90's). At 430K, I'll be taking...
Well no doubt the fixture played a role in their performance, but it was also the manner of the losses.
In the first half of the season, they beat North Melbourne, Richmond, Carlton and got within a point of Collingwood. In the second half of the season, they were thumped by those very same...
Stanton was another one... he was pulling in Ablett-like scores for the first half of the season and then faded away completely.
It's hard to gauge any of them after that bipolar season.
Out of interest, any idea what happened to Crameri in the 2nd half of last season?? (I suppose you could ask that of a number of Essendon players.)
I'm looking at his scores and he broke 100 6 times in his first 9 games, but he didn't get near it for the rest of the season.
I hadn't actually...
And they're the two I've gone with as well. I was shying away from picking Franklin due to his price and contract situation, but the more I went over that list, the more he seemed like the safest option among the other high premiums.
It's actually quite difficult to settle on the forward premium(s) to go with. Buddy's a risk at $618K. There are injury concerns over Naitanui. Cox and Pavlich are both 31 and Ryder and Roughead probably haven't scored high enough in the past.
After that, you come to a bunch of slightly...
Sylvia seems like a flaky player, but his SC season averages are pretty consistent.
2009: 90.5
2010: 88.0
2011: 96.3
2012: 81.0 (Averged 98 in his last 11 games after coming back from a spinal injury)
So that's probably what you'll get from him this season. Rarely pulls in the HUGE scores...
Not picking up Zorko.
Trading Porplyzia for Goodes (instead of Pavlich).
Trading out Sandilands for an injured McIntosh.
Putting my faith in Kruezer.
Putting my faith in Giles.
Putting my faith in Mumford.
... I've made a mess of my rucks this season.
Initially, I thought it was a rediculous decision, but after reviewing the footage I think it's slightly less rediculous...
If it was a marking contest, Joseph would have been applauded for his courage and Ziebell would have been fine. But I don't think this was a realistic attempt to take...
I find that concerning coming from an Essendon supporter...
Why? Whitecross looks to have taken it to another level (98, 133) and surely Dempsey would outscore Ellis.
There's a fair bit wrong with my bench selections - but my priority this week is getting Dempsey into the team before his price skyrockets.
OUT: Bate IN: Stanley
OUT: Tomlinson IN: Dempsey
Who's my best option? Stanley or Milera... or Kennedy?
Surely, 'Kraut' would be the more appropriate slur...
Everyone bristles when called a racist - there are few things more damaging than being called a racist in public life. Every few months, the whole of Australia collectively shouts "Who? Us?!" following the latest international incident...
