AFL will always be a second-rate competition while grounds are different sizes.

LOL! 10 Victorian teams (+2 ex-Victorian teams) in an 18 team competition. GF played in Victoria regardless of where the finalists are from. GF replay. A team from west Melbourne called "Western Bulldogs" despite there being 5 teams in the competition located further west, 2 of them over 2,500...

If you could change an AFL team's nickname

Either "Footscray Bulldogs" or "Fifth-most Western Bulldogs". Current name would work in the VFL, but not the AFL.

    Bonus Premiership Point

How about a bonus point if a team wins all 4 quarters of a match? That will keep a team attacking even if they've clearly won the match, and remove the opportunity for collusion where the losing team is "allowed" by the winning team to get over the 100 point mark, and it won't matter which...

AFL still fourth best attended sporting competition in the world

It's both amusing and kind of sad to see someone working so hard to try and spin the facts. "Oh sure, we drove a lot of fans away in 2012, but not quite as many in the following years" The AFL expanded in 2012, taking the number of teams from 17 to 18, and the number of matches in the season...

AFL still fourth best attended sporting competition in the world

No, it is totally correct. 2010 6,494,564 2011 6,533,138 2012: GWS get added, there's an extra game per round, and yet the total number of people attending drops.

AFL still fourth best attended sporting competition in the world

Although it is interesting that since the 2012 expansion, the total number of people attending (not just the average) has dropped as well.

AFL still fourth best attended sporting competition in the world

If if if ....If the AFL ran a proper "play each opponent twice per season" league rather than a mickey mouse "play all teams once and some teams twice" arrangement (while making sure to schedule their "Blockbuster" matches twice per season and the lower-drawing matches only once per season), the...

    Whose fault is that?

Australian Football is the easier code to make professionally in the world.

At half time during an A-league game, I switched over and and saw an AFL player have a free shot at the ridiculously large goals, manage to miss, and get rewarded with a point for trying. Not sure how anyone can seriously follow a sport like that.

    AFL World Cup

I agree - the "proof of the pudding" is whether it gets updated. ...etc... You'd think 2 days before the day of the tournament teams wouldn't still be looking for players...

Does the AFL want to be a genuinely national competition?

    A) 18 team competition, of which 10 teams are Victoria, 2 more are ex-Victorian (and still promote their "Victorian-ness" when it suits them), and 1 more team created solely due to the number of Victorians retiring to that area. B) Grand Final held in Melbourne every year, regardless of the who...

    Driver whinging has to stop

I've driven along Canning Highway many, many times, and I've never encountered this amazing, physics-defying hill where you have to drive faster than the speed limit to get up the hill. You know what they say about assumptions.

AFL blocking A-League GF at MCG/Etihad

As a sports fan, the idea of the Grand Final being hosted by the team that earnt it that season is a lot better than the idea of the Grand Final always being hosted in Melbourne regardless of who the teams in the Grand Final are.

MCG may be football-free next July

Well, if we're making bizarre hypotheticals, what happens if an atomic bomb is dropped in the heart of Melbourne? Bearing in mind over that 50% of the people on the planet who follow AFL would live within the blast zone, the entire league would be toast, not just one team.
