For some reason I get a feeling the same people calling for Shoota to go out are the ones that were made to look fools in the matchday thread…
In: Steele
Out: Macrae
You know it’s coming and Steele would want to have extracted that digit of his.
You do realise that the context is that he was absolutely mauled by Neale leading to the complete domination in clearance and contested ball in that Q, yeah? He was bad like really bad there’s no sugar coating it, but he was on a hiding to nothing with how we’d set him for the game the past few...
Told ya Jen2310 I desperately hope they bite the bullet and replace him with Sullivan rather than trying to force it next week when he’s now out of touch. Really frustrating one from the MC!
Cameron, Daniher, Rayner and Bailey were abysmal and Neale took them most of the way on his back. If we’d have found a way to lose that one that was it.
A very even contribution with Frampton, Elliott and Fly’s coaching performance the real standouts for me. The way we used Cameron to curb...
I think you’re both probably right and that take was as close to a game day vent as I get. I think though that I’d have others in the gun ahead of him (Mitchell, McReery, Hill and Pendles) who even if they spike aren’t going to give us what Crisp will if he does.
The rider is every time I get...
I dont know what to make of the Crisp call. If you want to really send a message just ******* drop him. His forms been well off and giving him one quarter isn’t turning that around. He’s also been significantly better than Mitchell despite the drop in form. Gone full Buckley here, IMO!
Given your interest on upgrading in the draft which leads to a longer term rejuvenation over cashing in on windows I would have thought your interest would sit with Smith. That’s where mine would considering the likely trade costs of the two. Not to mention Smith is a better fit from a traits...
What’s the end goal? Are we trading Fin? Two of Mitchell/ Pendles/ Steele retiring? A salary dump if we lose a couple of seasoned bodies and it works, but I think he’s outside the Dogs 23 for a reason and at our best I don’t see room for him if his brother kicks on. Like Oliver buyer beware.
The style of game shifts to a contested arm wrestle where every mistake is amplified and space is harder to find then take advantage of. The perfect one play example was McVee overcommitting costing the match winning goal in the SF v Carlton. That little error happens often during the H&A season...
Again I’m just not buying that every team is paying for a player to be on an opposition list.
I’m also not sure of the relevance to this discussion in the rest of your post? If it’s a separate thought bubble I don’t really have much of a take 👍
If it’s in reference to Shoota it’s irrelevant...
The answer to me is pretty straightforward they go together hand in glove. If the assistant coaches aren’t developing the team won’t succeed.
Let me map out an alternative option for you. Would you prefer the 2024 setup or the 2024 setup minus Leppa and Bolton who have been poached by...
I think it would be less common than you’ve indicated and no one is doing it to the magnitude we are and have been.
It doesn’t happen on deals like Shoota’s there’s a %0 chance they’re paying him to play for us. They got the deal they got because Bell drives a hard bargain, they were desperate...
I’ll take a centrist Sr leaning view of this one. The Buckley years we under achieved through 17-21 in all bar 2018 with 2019 and 2020 real missed opportunities. We then move to the McRae years where I believe we’ve overachieved with a group stretching into its twilight years.
The path ahead...
Bloody hell reactionary types are losing their minds already over Shoota could you imagine if we’d recruited Doedee as well 🤯
Handing a guy the contract they did with 3 ACL’s under his belt was a risky move considering all the top quality list calls they’ve made since turning the corner.
I think they made the correct call in Rd 0 when both Mitchell and Pendles were declared fit. There just wasn’t room. The past fortnight were opportunities for the MC to learn.
I think hope is a losers mentality myself. Macrae was in form and there was no reason to hope he would have had ann impact v Sydney and St Kilda had he not been sub. Good performances in those matches help him build into the season and establish himself in the 23. Now though he probably should...
I think it was likely the difference. A Ben McKay beside Moore or Dunkley next to JDG or Lewis as the focal point instead of Mihocek would be big right now and I assume we’re edging closer to it, but probably have 2025 to go at least.
I get that, but I’ll frankly be shocked if a young fringe player who was the hot hand a month ago and has played two consecutive matches as sub after missing the week before that has any meaningful impact whatsoever. It’ll likely be the same v Hawthorn leading to him being dropped v Port unless...
Nailed it with this!
To highlight the bolded it started last year with Shoota. He was the best available player and we brought him in. That is good list management that some on here are tearing down in the space of 3 matches. The one addition I’d add though is a clean slate with the salary cap...
It feels a bit of a sugar hit to me which I think is the appeal.
Setting aside our finals run I’ve found the last 10 or so matches from us a real grind to watch. We play in fits and spurts trying to get 4 goals up and then ice the game it’s taxing for both player and supporter alike. Gone are...
They’re also putting numbers in areas of the ground they know we use when there’s a slow play. That long to the point of the square ball worked so well because no one was doing it. Clubs now know that once we stall off half back we aren’t changing angles to shift the defence and we’re going to...
Lesson or reason to be wary? I don’t think we can take any lessons from an unfortunate incident at an opposition club. That would also be ACL number 4 for Doedee I believe. That’s rough.
Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a Reid or Beams or even Brown sitting in the twos at the moment…
The broader issue is that our problems aren’t personnel related. The three teams to beat us have set up really well both inside and outside the contest. Swapping Steele for Allan or Markov for...
I like it, but I doubt MC does because they love two rucks and it’s worked for them. If DC goes out Frampton will be the 2nd ruck which I think necessitates a re-shuffle of what you’ve mapped out unless they bite the bullet and have him follow Daniher everywhere. Most clubs are loathe to ruck a...
The midfield is a bit one paced at the moment so when they pull the trigger on him I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s into a high HF role in rotation with Shoota who’s been a bit lost in our forward mix the first few weeks.
