Right here!
Very excited for 2017. Signing Turner for $16m per year seems extremely solid given some of the other contracts that have been given out this offseason. He's been a late bloomer but he's become one of the best 3Bs in the game. Said to be a strong leader in the clubhouse too.
My gut...
Pretty much this. Was a Melbourne Heart supporter from day one and have supported United for ~20 years. As time has gone on I've definitely become more attached to Heart/City than United, mainly because I just can't watch live EPL matches anymore and I can go and watch most of City's home...
It's great that the Dodgers have fundamentally forgotten how to play decent baseball since taking the 2-1 series lead last week. Playing themselves right out of the playoffs. Infuriating.
Well I think we can retire some of the ridiculous "Kershaw can't pitch in the postseason" narratives now...
Didn't see the game today, but there were definitely some interesting things to come out of it:
The Dodgers are now 4-0 in playoff games in which Kershaw pitched, 0-3 in the others...
The thing that flummoxes or disappoints me most is that getting Chapman out of the game seemed a bigger priority to Roberts than getting out of the inning unscathed. That's just bad process. Worry about getting through the inning without conceding before concerning yourself with scoring more runs.
That eighth inning really did cover the full gamut of emotion.
Amazing effort to tie the game against Chapman, who struck out Seager and Puig with your standard 101/103km fastball. Gonzo delivered as he has so many times before, and gave us reason to believe.
Obviously Roberts will get killed...
Literally everything going the Cubs' way. On another night we might even be in front, but as you say, all our hard-hit balls have found fielders. Fowler in particular has made some terrific catches.
Andrew Miller is just filthy.
Reckon they'll give Dusty Baker another year at least... it was his first year and they still won 95 games. Here's hoping they keep him!
Hooking Scherzer after the Joc HR was a little strange. I actually can't believe it cleared the wall - to go opposite field...
I'm so, so proud of my Dodgers. Just an unbelievably gutsy effort against the odds.
Gotta give it to Dave Roberts for his management today. Bringing in his best setup guy in the 3rd, his closer in the 7th and his ace on one day's rest in the ninth takes serious cojones. Above all, like many...
Jesus, what an implosion.
That game basically encapsulated the Giants' season. Just couldn't get the final 3 outs.
They'll back up the truck for one (or more) of Chapman, Jansen and Melancon in the offseason, you'd think.
Haven't posted in here for a while but pretty excited about the playoffs!
Good win for my Dodgers today. Kershaw definitely struggled - didn't have his command, particularly with his slider. That said, the Nationals went 1-9 with RISP and left 7 on base while Kershaw was pitching, so he...
Jason Heyward follows Zobrist and Lackey in joining the Cubs as a FA.
The Cubs' potential line-up for next year looks extremely scary:
Zobrist
Heyward
Rizzo
Bryant
Schwarber
Soler
Montero
Russell
And with Arrieta, Lester and Lackey heading the rotation... oh boy.
Well the Dodgers agreed to trade two prospects for Aroldis Chapman until some last-minute sleuthing revealed he was the subject of a police investigation for allegedly choking his girlfriend and firing eight bullets into a concrete wall during a domestic dispute last month.
He obviously would...
Yep. He's refreshingly honest and that's one of the things I'll miss most about him. Doesn't follow convention or play by anyone else's rules. He even said when he signed for the Dodgers that money was his number one priority, so I guess we should've seen this move coming after all, given the...
I'm still stunned that the Diamondbacks, of all teams, gazumped the Dodgers (and Giants) and nabbed Greinke. As a Dodgers fan, it feels arguably worse that he signed with them rather than the Giants - to think the richest club in the game (by a fair margin) was outbid by what is ultimately a...
Congratulations to the Mets for winning the NL pennant. Just a dominant LCS against the Cubs, who probably emerged quicker than most expected this season (like the Astros). The Cubs will be around for some time to come, especially with the likely looming pitching upgrades, which will complement...
Even as a Dodgers' fan I feel really conflicted after that win.
Utley has always been that sort of hyper-intense player who stops at nothing to win, but his actions today left me feeling queasy. It doesn't get more wilfully dangerous than what he did to Tejada. Looking back at the footage, he...
Under the old system the Cubs would have missed the playoffs for winning 97 games. That is worse than the new system IMO, although I agree that it's pretty rough on the Buccos. Probably should have more to do with overhauling divisions if they're going to make any changes.
Anyway, I'm so...
If I had to pick the NL winner right now, I might even back the Cubs. Their lineup is just so stacked with quality bats, and they've got decent depth as well. The bullpen is probably their achilles heel, but you could say that about the Dodgers and maybe the Mets as well in the NL. The Cards...
The Dodgers have been no-hit twice in the past month and have a 7.5-game lead in the NL West. Go figure.
As for the Braves... they've lost 12 straight and 19 of their last 20. Talk about a freefall!
Not overly optimistic about my Dodgers' chances this year. Once again, our bullpen appears too flimsy and our rotation beyond Kershaw/Greinke is shaky.
Still, how exciting is the season in general? So much young talent, so many teams that have been off the radar for so long (Royals, Jays...
My wife and I were actually lucky to be in the studio audience for this episode. Apparently the tickets are extremely hard to get (you need to apply around 2.5 weeks before your desired episode, and the application period closes around two minutes after it opens due to unbelievable demand). We...
I've been to Dodger Stadium and AT&T Park in the past month - both are brilliant. Heading to Citi Field tomorrow for Mets-Brewers, and then Fenway on Tuesday for Sox-Rangers. Also hoping to catch a Cubs game during their series with Washington at Wrigley next week. Cannot wait for my coming week...
