Our two best and most exciting players, Rankine and Dawson, were trade-ins. Better than all the draftees that Ogilvie, with four years at or near the bottom of the table could get us. That is very damming of the recruiting and/or the development of our list. In the future I do hope we trade our...
We were close but stuffed uo in 05, 06 and 17. Over the last couple of years we had the opportunity of achieving a solid rebuild but I think we stuffed that up also. So, 24 years since our last flag and little or no prospects of another one on the horizon (10 to 15 years).
I don't agree. My recollection of David is that he usually drilled his passes to leading teammates. The exceptions were when he was under the pump or the forwards were static waiting for it to be bombed on their heads.
That's not true. There was a sizable number of supporters, probably not the majority, that thought the club was delusional. I noted at the time that Collingwood and one other club (I forget which) that was chasing Carey at pulled out of the race saying he was not worth a first round pick let...
I'm not so sure. A team fall of premiership players would have commanded a lot of money. All the talk beforehand and after the trade was about the limits on what the salary would be compared to Selwood etc. I think the Crows would have had a greater capacity to pay a higher salary than Geelong.
He never sulked. Thst is an Urban Myth that arose out of a quote where he said he was pretty dark on being dropped. He explained later that he meant to say he was pretty dark on himself for being dropped and hoped to improve and get back in the team.
I don't understand the hate on this board...
I'm a bit more pessimistic. I look at Melbourne, Bulldogs, Geelong and Brisbane and I see top end talent all over the ground with all those teams. I just don't see that with Adelaide's list. I think our youngsters will develop enough to get us into the bottom half of the eight but that's it...
I suspect you are joking just a bit. But why do you care what he says. He just practices sensationalist journalism and probably doesn't even believe it himself.
When you run there are times when both feet are not touching the ground. Really, to make a proper determination you should look at the video. I've only seen it once but my impression was that Dangerfield didn't jump.
Conspiracy theory? St Kilda offered the minimum that was enough to get Brad to commit. That this was low enough to not trigger a band 1 compo was just a bonus. I don't think deliberately screwing us would be on any clubs agenda.
I admit I don't see a great deal of value in David's contributions over the years but I will bow to those that know more about footy than I do. Every coach since Neil Craig has seen something in him and consistently placed him in our best 22. That's Craig, Bickley, Sanderson, Walsh, Camporeale...
What is perplexing is one of our best players in Brad Crouch is not considered an A-grader. suggesting we don't have an a grader on our list. (Is there any other club in this situation?) and yet we're maxed out? Surely something is wrong with our list management and pay structures.
It's funny though, people have been predicting the decline and fall of Geelong for the past 5 or 6 years. And yet they keep on turning up for the finals.
I think your being a bit harsh. Lots of posters feel that if a player is not a tackling machine or a contested ball beast then they are not AFL standard (Atkins, Jenkins and Mackay come to mind). Similarly McGovern, Keath and Lever have been criticised for not standing up as key position...
If Barrett said that he is saying something that is not even true. My understanding is that Brouch would love to stay, if he can get a suitable contract.
"It is the fact that the AFL will not want us to have picks 1 and 2". Given that one of the AFL policies is equalisation of the competition, I'm not so sure that this is in fact a fact. Puts your whole argument on shaky ground.
I think you are missing something. Brad leaving Richmond would get them pick 20. Brad leaving the Crows will get them pick 2. It's the ladder position, not Brad's ability that gets the Crows pick 2.
True, but the ball is still in the Saints court. I don't think there is a lot the Crows can do to make it happen. If I were at the Saints I would be having a quiet word with someone at the AFL to see what is required to trigger band 1 compensation.
Exactly, it's pretty simple really, isn't it? The Crows say you can have Brad if you offer him enough to get us band 1 compensation. Otherwise we match. The ball is in the Saints court.
The Hawks got that pick because they were premiers.. We get pick 2 because we're bottom. Isn't that how it's supposed to work? When good players leave struggling clubs they get generously compensated? Whereas successful clubs not so much?
To be fair, that journalist did not write a lot wrong. If a lot of posters improved their reading and comprehension skills there would be a lot less angst on this board.
