Trade period / National Draft 2024

I am so conflicted this year. Fortunately I've got so much on right now that I a paying much less attention to the footy. Be crap if we were winning. But I want good picks, and lots of them. But I don't want to lose game or players. Reckon this is the year to play the kids (win less games)...

Preview Round 7 v Melbourne ANZAC Eve MCG Wednesday April 24th 7.25pm

Our young mids will get to see what the AFL is really like. I expect us to do OK, but the D's to win comfortably.

Even the AFL will surely not change the trade/draft on the fly? yeah nah, they are likely to give it a shot. thoughtful prepared changes is not their thing

Welcome Welcome to Richmond Pick 17 - Tom Brown

193 cm and 0 kg. He's a virtual player. :moustache: 188 is fine and perhaps he actually weighs something.

Baker yes. Bolton no ;) Baker sounds like he is gone. Just to who and for what. great leadership, good player, versatile and experienced premiership winner. Worth a lot to a team that can fit him in. Bolton can help us win premierships given his age and talent and how long a rebuild should...

I always thought BF was just a bunch of nuts, and the tigers are on the Richmond BF board. But yes, it all seems too much to be accidental. And I'd love to know what is going on.

If we have a fit list then we have good depth and a solid age profile. Big if right now. unless we can get a decent B grader cheap I'd just focus on drafting kids. And some people want us to go after pick 1. I'd look at what we have to pay. Unless it is a super star then I'd rather 2 top 10...

Player Watch #10 Maurice Rioli Jnr

The step from his current level to very good AFL isn't huge for MRJ. Consistency and being in the right place and performing skills well is all. Many players never take that step. I hope that MRJ matures this year and puts in the effort to be really fit and to get 'smarter'. I also reckon that...

Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - Part 2

It'd be amazing if we got that good a compo. Clubs usually do try to look after one another. The AFL tries to screw us over. Another top 25 pick would be an amazing haul.

Preview Round 5 v West Coast Eagles Optus Stadium Sunday 14th April 4pm

2024 is now the year of working through players and tactics. We have no chance of advancing with these injuries. But we can try out players and see what we have whilst speeding their development. Still reckon we should beat the Eagles, but this is getting ridiculous.

    Injury Report - Season 2024

The injuries will destroy our season. They do allow is to play the kids and build to the future. And mean we get a 'better' pick. If some players go FA then there is some sort of chance of a good compo pick. AFL will make sure it is round 15 though.

Player Watch #33: Kamdyn McIntosh - signed until 2023

Spot on. I desperately want Banks to replace KMac. I was hoping he'd come on faster and be ready. But until the young guys can do it week in week out and hold their own against AFL players we'll be hurting ourselves. We need to be playing them to learn. But KMac out, young guy in won't work -...

Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - Part 2

5 years seems rich. He will play well for 5 more years. Maybe 5 years if they pay a bit less, but more years. Overall, as much as I like him, I see him moving on an us advancing our rebuild as probably a better option

Player Watch #33: Kamdyn McIntosh - signed until 2023

KMac and Pickett do the job and are reliable. They are not our future. But until someone pushes them out, or there is a decision to remove them then they will stay.

Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - Part 2

Lots of teams would fine JGTI a useful player. He's not going to get top $ or be a star. But possibly a good FA. Hopefully we get half decent compo, 2nd round I'd guess. Can't imagine first round compo. That would be awesome, but crazy

    Club Focus Richmond 2024

Plenty of scope to lose Baker and Graham, Prestia and Grimes retire and drop one or two players. Maybe one or two others to go. That's easily 5+ players, could be 7 or 8. Which is too many. With the picks we have this year and the need of some other teams for points we should be able to get...

It'll be interesting to see what we do. And of course with Tassie coming in (120K members!!). If our tassie boys do come on and want to go home they will have extra currency in 2027. We could end up with a serious draft pick rebuild without necessarily begin bottom 5 for years.

yeah. Maybe lose Graham as well. I really like Fridge. But he is just staying in the AFL now. Don't know why he hasn't kicked on.And we have lots of kids to play. But you have to balance that with keeping experience and leadership.

We might just be able to recreate our list without selling the farm. Some smart moves and we'll be fine. I so hope so. This year looks not good.

Trade some experienced players. But retain as much as you can whilst rebuilding. That way you shorten the rebuild and improve he development of the kids and transfer the successful culture. No one is trading for Grimes or Prestia. Martin I really hope stays. If we traded Baker, OK. Not happy...

    Player Watch #46: Ben Miller

yeah, but .... Miller doing fine as a back. He was then thrown forward. As a forward he isn't aggressive enough. And doesn't seem to have the extra instinct. As a back he has been fine. Not Rance, but fine. His problem is that he was he guy they sent to fill the forward hole. And he didn't...

I am all for getting a serious draft hand. And I am even more for keeping a heap of leadership and experience in the squad. If we lose 2 experienced leaders then we should get back serious draft picks. And right now we can trade player = picks for a good pick. Could be a major draft hand in 2024...
  25. Dr Tigris

Does it take too long for clubs to rebuild their lists?

Completely agree. You get in kids who mature - some more than others. Quite often young players are dills, who then mature into high quality adults. Quite often the dills stay as dills. That is a huge difference to the US system. They leave colleges at 22ish, and so you have a decent lead on...

if you are genuinely contending or stuck at rock bottom it will hurt. If you are in between and have enough mature talent you can make hay. If you have talented Tassies, who want o go home to eh new team, then you will get extra hay. Picking tassies might be a great idea in a few years. Or if...

Free kick differential stats 2024 (Richmond 18th after 3 rounds) 😡

GWS = TV revenue and building he game in western Sydney. But maybe they have been good for too long now. Carlton have sucked, like us before 2017. reckon the love for the Pies will diminish. they have their cup.
  30. Dr Tigris

Does it take too long for clubs to rebuild their lists?

You have to have the A grade core to win it all. But after that it is about having good AFL talent and using them well. Every contending team should have at least 25 AFL quality players, so then it is all about the coaching and team cohesion + tactics. But premierships are won by the best 'team'...
