Good post,
Something certainly needs to be done, anyone can see that country footy in our area is really struggling and the struggle will just keep getting harder.
I think leagues where you play each other twice is the best idea, some leagues have way too many clubs and it makes for unfair...
Who decides the criteria to just field reserves surely the cutters fall into that category. The people at the club are doing a great job getting a team out there every week and by all reports the coach is doing a great job as well. Surely if the league want to help the clubs continue they only...
Shell Cup U/15
School Boys U/16
Teal cup U/17
then if you were lucky the big boys might ask you to have a kick in the U/19’s
not a bad system and it kept the good kids playing during the year at the local clubs.
Couldn’t agree more,
What do these kids learn at academies that they couldn’t learn from good junior coaches and senior players within the clubs.
not that I have any boys but it seems to be a big commitment for little return.
I may be wrong though.
yep we are hoping both boys spend their time at GV level, learn as much as they can from a bloke who played a fair bit of AFL footy and one day return home as potential coaches or at the least very good senior players.
I think it’s a way to use the age differences, we had a couple of boys leave the rams to play U/18’s at Echuca this year one got a couple of senior games which was a great result for him. He is staying to have a crack at the higher level. The other has come back to us to try his hand at Murray...
This was on the PT Facebook page
Picola League football and netball will be played in the local area tomorrow.
Please note however, Victorian spectators are advised not to attend games.
The NSW Government is maintaining that anyone who has been in Victoria since May 27 must adhere to the stay...
isn't it in breach of the NSW rules, Gladys has stated any Victorian coming into NSW has to abide by the covid rules they have in their state. i'e senior sport can only train at this stage.
one of the problems we found from the couple of kids we have had at TAC cup level, and it’s not that many. They were never allowed to play with us when they weren’t playing TAC cup because they had to “Rest” FFS they are 18 year old kids. I went to school in Kilmore and it was nothing for us to...
Scrap the whole concept and move back to a club based U/19 concept in my opinion. At least you are aligned with a club and playing for something. I watched a few games last year and it was very frustrating to watch. Selfish football where it’s all about getting the most stats to get noticed.
yep bring back the squads like they did in the late 80’s at VFL park. The Gary Lyon squad was one from memory all the GV kids, the Flea Weightman squad was the kids from Mildura way. Makes sense to me.
no different to Deni to Dookie !!
might be a good time to consider Murray league Division 2
Berrigan
Toc
Jerilderie
Hay
Deni Rovers
Strathy
Mathoura
Etc etc
110 between Deni and Hay, usually only a bit over an hour. Would have been good to see them in the picola league when it was the north west division. Always a good trip to hay to play cricket I’d imagine footy would be the same.
Absolutely, the few clubs I’ve been involved with pretty much run as not for profit organisations who put the few dollars they make after paying all the bills back into the facilities at the club etc.
Given that the two states can’t agree on golf and fishing. What are the chances of them reaching common ground on footy and netball starting up. Cross border leagues may find that another hurdle to be negotiated I would think.
FYI former Deni Rams premiership captain Luke Moodie is currently riding his skate board from Deni to Monash Children's hospital in Melbourne to raise funds for the hospital and his sick nephew. Check out his page at
