Hawthorn 2007-FFFX

The Hawthorn Football Club has made a statement that 2007 is the year they expect their young Hawks to arrive. The club has announced that Alastair Clarkson will again coach the Hawks and that he is wanting/expecting big things from the club. He says that "I think that many of our young players will take big strides this year and because thay have not been in the system for too long they will take the opposition off guard."

The club says a top 4 finish is not out of hands.

Re: Hawthorn 2007-FFFX

SHOCKING news has been released by the club today that superstar Luke Hodge has injured a hamstring and is expected to miss 4 weeks. The club said that "Yes, Luke has done a hammy. He hopes to be back ina few weeks and we expect another player to step up to the plate. We are not a one man team."

Round 1
Lions vs Hawks
B: T.Clarke T.Croad B.Sewell
HB: X.Ellis D.Jacobs C.Brown
C: R.Vandenberg S.Crawford C.Bateman
HF: B.Guarra J.Roughead G.Birchall
F: M.Thorp L.Franklin M.Williams
R: R.Campbell S.Mitchell J.Lewis
I/C: B.Dixon J.Smith T.Boyle S.Gilham

Players to Watch
J.Roughead- The big utility is going to play forward for most of the year. In his third year now big things are expected of him. The club hopes thhat he can become the big, high-marking, roaming player in the build of Nick Riewoldt.
C.Bateman- With Luke Hodge injured Chance has the chance() to play a key role in the midfield. He has been told to run and take on the opposition.

Hawks Sneak by Lions
The Hawthorn Hawks have snuck by the Lions to win their first game of the season. The Hawks won by an even goal with the scoreline 11.19.85 - 11.13.79. Buddy Franklin was the hero and villian og the game. Franklin kicked 5.9 in an inaccurate performance but he kicked goals in the game that really mattered. With the Hawks down by 2 goals with 4 minutes to play Franklin snapped a great goal. Mark Williams, the pocket-sized forward dynamo, kicked another goal to bring the game at an even draw. But again Franklin bobbed up in the final minute minute with a neat goal putting the Hawks up by one. The Hawks then slowed the game down and kept the ball to themselves in the dying seconds.

We have mentioned the forwards (Franklin and Williams but let's not forget the mids. Sam Mitchell was fantastic with 46 touches, as was Crawford (35 touches) and the fine Chance bateman who, as the Hawthorn Football Club anticipated, stepped up to the plate in the absence of sperstar Luke Hodge. however the club lost Robert campbell to a hamstring strain club officials said they will give updates as they find the extant of the injury. It is believed the injury is similiar to Luke Hodge's

Lions Goals: Bradshaw 3, Brown 2, Power 2, Lappin , Notting, Black, Voss
Lions Best: Power, Brown, Adcock, Bradshaw, Drummond, Johnson

Hawks Goals:
Franklin 5, Roughead 2, Williams 2, Crawford, Thorp
Hawks Best: Mitchell, Crawford , Bateman, Franklin, Sewell, Croad

Media Votes -
3.Sam Mitchell
2.Shane Crawford
1.Luke Power

Sam Mitchell worked hard against the Lions with 46 touches.
