Hawk's midfielder Chance Bateman could come straight back after overcoming a hand injury

HAWTHORN could welcome back Chance Bateman to the side for this weekend's clash against Port Adelaide at Aurora Stadium, according to onballer Shane Crawford.

A hand injury robbed Bateman of his chance to represent the Dream Team last weekend but his possible return for the clash against the Power should bolster the undefeated Hawks who are without star Luke Hodge due to a hamstring injury.

Bateman 'outstanding': Clarkson

Alastair Clarkson says Hawthorn couldn't have won their ninth game for the year without Chance Bateman

HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson admitted his side wasn’t at its best on Sunday, but praised its ability to still win the four premiership points in a hard-fought clash with Melbourne.
By beating the Demons by 19 points at the MCG, the Hawks improved their 2008 record to 9-0 – the best-ever start to a season in the club’s history.

HAWTHORN'S Chance Bateman says it will take Lance Franklin all of the club's remaining three home and away to bring up his 100 goals for the season.
The star forward needs just nine more goals heading into this weekend's clash with Richmond.

Eight Hawks re-sign for two more

August 14, 2008 HAWTHORN have signed new deals with eight players, which will keep them at the AFL club for the next two years.

The eight players are Jarryd Roughead, Chance Bateman, Jordan Lewis, Robert Campbell, Mark Williams, Mitch Thorp, Brent Renouf and Jarryd Morton.

Hawks football manager Mark Evans said this week's re-signings were a great boost for the club's future.

"It's a strong message to have eight players who are such a big part of our future quest for premiership success all coming out in the one week and agreeing to terms, it's a great message of solidarity," Evans told the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show.

The Hawks are currently second on the ladder.

Re: 10. Chance Bateman

  • HAWTHORN forward Lance Franklin last night topped off a stunning season with one more medal, winning the club's best and fairest award at Crown.
Franklin won his first Peter Crimmins Medal with 216 votes, after polling in 24 of his 25 games, well ahead captain Sam Mitchell (177) and Norm Smith medallist Luke Hodge (175).

The award ends a remarkable season for Franklin, 21, who won the Coleman Medal after becoming the first player in four years to kick a hundred goals and a premiership medal last week.

He received the best-and-fairest medal last night from Crimmins' widow, Gwen, as well as a commemorative piece from the club to recognise his Coleman win.

While Franklin, who kicked 113 goals in only his fourth season, won the medal by 39 votes, only five votes separated the next three players.
In his first season as skipper, Mitchell nudged out vice-captain Hodge and

Franklin's forward-line partner Jarryd Roughead.
Hodge was named the best player in the finals, Roughead was judged the most consistent player and Chance Bateman won the best clubman award.
Exciting forward Cyril Rioli, who finished sixth in the best and fairest in his debut season, was the best first-year player.

HAWTHORN fans will be praying the new-look Chance Bateman has not lost any of his speed when he lines up for this Saturday's match against Melbourne.
After last season's grand final win, Bateman had his trademark dreadlocks cut off to raise money for the Rioli Fund for Aboriginal Health.

Nab Cup Round 1 Vs Melbourne

Kicks 4 Handballs 1 Marks 1 Tackles 1 Goals 0 Behinds 0

Changa had an early exit from the first NAB Cup game of 2009, with what looked like a rolled ankle. He was his usual running self prior to the injury racking up 5 disposals in short time. Changa has had ankle injuries in the past and will likely be rested for the next couple of games.

He looks super fit though, and I am expecting further improvement on his great 2008 season.
