Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

I just think calling a kid lazy is such a slur on their name. From this lazy attitude tag, people begin to question work rate and dedication.

Here's a kid who has battled all his life and people have the nerve to call him lazy. I realise I may be taking this the wrong way, but I just think the tag is so poor.

I know where you are coming from. There have been some pretty knowledgable posters on here who have been perpetuating this myth too, which hasn't helped

I hate to say it, but if he wasn't indigenous, he wouldn't have this lazy tag put on him

It's disgusting. Having worked with Chris and Neville I know they put in alot of effort. Chris in particular has had to overcome a fair bit in his short life and it is a testament to his focus that he is still playing footy.

Amongst all the hype of the 18's carnival he has been undertaking a public speaking course. Why? He identified that as a personal flaw and he wants to correct it.

He wouldnt want me to say it, but it's so frustrating watching a false impression be created when it is totally unwarranted.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

He is indigenous, isn't he?

I believe there is an official AFL ruling that states that AFL teams and commentators (on tv or amateur on Bigfooty) have to follow certain protocol when discussing indigenous players:

- Without exception, they must be played in the forward pocket.

Young, frail non-indigenous midfielders who don't have the fitness base to run in the center square get played in bursts until they do, or play in defence. Similar Indigenous players will never develop the fitness, and must therefore play in the forward pocket for their whole career.

- Any flashy play that succeeds by an indigenous player is part of their genetic make-up (ie Rioli). Any flashy play that succeeds by a non-indigenous player (ie Didak) is testament to their skill training. Any flashy play by an indigenous player that fails is immediately excused because they don't know any better. Any flashy play by a non-indigenous player that fails is because they are selfish (Fevola)

- If an indigenous player is laid-back in personality, they are lazy. If they are out-going, they have unmentionable 'off-field issues'. If they get drafted interstate and have trouble adjusting, they will never adjust and drop out of the league. If a non-indigenous player is laid-back, they are laconic and a good bloke. If they are out-going, they are a good leader. If they get drafted interstate and have difficulty adjusting, they can demand a trade back home to be closer to their mum.

- When discussing indigenous draftees, they must always be described as 'the best talent in the draft, but a bit lazy'. Their potential must be referred to, but they must always be seen as a riskier proposition than a non-indigenous counterpart.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

I could not agree more, that the term lazy is a beat up.

I remember hearing a commentator on ABC stating that Yarran was lazy after he dropped a mark. This lazy tag is becoming bigger and bigger as time passes.

As pinkus has stated, I also have a sneaky feeling that it is because he is indigenous. I've even had this talk in another thread, where I disagreed with Yarran being labelled lazy and then someone rebutted by saying "his father was in jail and this was a bad character reference.".

Such a shame, but at the end of the day, recruiters hopefully will remove bias and base their decision on facts, not the Bigfooty/media consensus.

EDIT - btdg stated it perfectly.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

Started by the ABC crew.

He seems a very dilligent kid, but he sometimes has concentration lapses on-field i.e. spills an easy mark or shanks/floats a kick.

On his mid potential, interestingly a fair few recruiters believe he has a lot more midfield potential than most are led to believe on BF ... better than Rich according to a few.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

Shocking atttude Yarran. Bad work ethic.
Like Swift a huge risk. Been out of the game to long.
Like Nic Nat no footy smarts. Athlete not a footballer.

So just let the Eagles take all the risk ;)

# 2 Nic Nat
# 18 Swift
# 20 Yarran

That way ever one wins. Eagles take all the risk the other clubs play it safe.

On a serious note Yarran , good footballer would love him to slide to WC.

He gets bagged simply because he often makes the impossible look easy and occasionally make a silly error. So what footbaqller doesnt make some errors its all part of learning your craft.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

He is also doing year 12 so maybe he is at home doing his studies more than doing a run. Just back off him abit.

Also maybe thats apart of there plan that Yarren goes quiet sometimes. They might rotate Yarren,Jetta, Gartlett and some esle. So he does well for the time he gets.

Re: Just Curious, is Yarran Lazy, really?

Whats the differences between him and Rioli?

Yarran kicks with his right, he will kick more goals than Rioli over his career. Rioli will probably set more up.

Both fantastic talents.

Yarran is a more powerful player than Rioli.. eg. Cyril is a goalsneak who can do those crafty little things whereas Yarran will push into the midfield and play like a Kerr/Burgoyne

I go to Scotch and Cyril was awesome in the midfield last year for the firsts. I know that was just APS footy but I think Cyril can go in midfield and he will be better than Yarran.

But you cant really compare them.. they are very different players.
And Rioli plays alot of midfield aswell ...

Rioli can play midfield but it's his tank that's the problem. He'll need to work very very hard aerobically. I think at this stage he's most damaging as HFF in the role he is now, chip in with a few goals, make some team-lifting tackles and set up a few as well.

Spot on!!

Monocle, if that happened, I would be doing this:

Haha, he played as a high HF all year - which meant he pushed up the ground and played as an extra midfielder.

He has the tank.

He will play midfield.

Be afraid....
