I can confirm this (about Harvey) as I thought I saw him but wasn't sure so I thought I'd wait to see if others spotted him too.

It seems Carlton feel they must resort to spying.
Clubs send people to plenty of training sessions. Paul Roos came down to Melbourne for a couple of days last pre season and went to watch sessions at a couple of clubs.

Went to the session today. Not much point really. Majority were inside doing extra weight training. Few basic skills eg stand still kicking, reaction times eg Tennis ball/ soccerball/ footy. Face opposite direction and listen for the kick, turn and then mark.

Reaction times and basic skills session.

Watching replays from last season and there were quite a few times that this set play came off so well. I am sure all teams are practicing it, as the forward defences with the zone set up, get totally exposed as they they watch the Newman torp sail over their heads:thumbsu:

Edit:Barnzy, one player was mentioned FFS! Are you saying 3 quarters of the team were inside because they are not 100%??

So your saying only one person is injured? If you have seen other preseason reports prior to this one you would know we have a fair few still carrying injuries. Also there would of been people inside not 100 percent like Cotchin. I'll simplify the post for you so you can understand it.

I went down today.
I had a mate with me, who doesn't really like footy so he was distracting me a bit so sorry if I don't have the best report.

-For a while Brown was taking snap shots on goal rather than training with the main group.

-Skills were ok i guess for January. Jacko and Alroy were the biggest culprits in poor skills.

-Cuz moved well and his skills were pretty good. He was rushed off just as the majority of the media arrived.

-The drills were pretty standard. They had a full ground thing which was like keepings off. One team had to get the ball down to the other without it being touched by the opposition.

-They did sprints from one end of the ground to the other for a while.

-Then the rucks broke off and went with monkey. The rest of the boys did a drill inside 50 which was like circle work. Finding your way through congestion and giving it off.

-Polak ripped through a tackle and gave a handball off, which was goo to see.

-There were some boys from the AIS there watching.

-When I was walking to the grand stand along the boundary, a footy rolled to my feet i picked it up looked up and gave a handpass the Cogs, who said thanks "Thanks mate":thumbsu::D

-Halfway through won of the coaches/officials(didn't recognize him) came up to the stand and was looking around. For spies probably.

-I got Richo's autograph.:thumbsu: He stood there signing jumpers while the other boys stretched. Newy started giving him shit, which Richo responded to by saying "I'm out there promoting the club, I'm still pretty popular you know."

-I stood behind lids during his interview. He said Cuz has settled in well and he is now "just one of the boys" He said Richo could play until he his 40(which is true) He also said they have been doing a little more running this pre-season.

Thats all i can remember for now. If u wanna know about individual players just let me know and I'll tell you what i know.

Went today too. Did their full session but started earlier. They absolutely flogged the boys in almost full ground 75% pace running.

Pettifer was running repetively to gain the strength in his knee.

Conners was on a reduced program, running laps at roughly 3/4 pace. He was being timed, didnt look too sore. After his 4th lap he went down into the rooms and footy staff questioned where he was going. Sorta caught him on the spot and he made up an answer.

Cousins obviously still on his program. Participating in most drills but dropping out it a few and focused on handball drills/ reaction drills etc.

Nathan Brown spent majority of session snapping goals both in the air and along the ground. Slotted most through.

Polak is showing an improvement every day according to Moore and white. He snapped i nice goal to recieve a cheer from the playing group. He obviously has the respect and huge support from his team mates.

Don't know much about the new boys as I don't follow so closely anymore. However Vickery has just as much fitness as angus graham. (By watching their repetitive running drill.) So can see him developing into a solid player.

Spoke to Patto, he's playing a CHF role this year, with minimal time in the ruck. Hopefully he could drift up to the opposite wing as richo in a similar role. For a big man, patto has a huge motor.

Cleve hughes in my eyes hasn't progressed as far as I'd like. However they are giving him the opportunity to be a main focus down forward. Richo tends to drift in from the wing into the square.

White, Foley and Jackson are clearly the fittest 3 at the club. Joel Bowden actually suprised me with his fitness levels for an aging bloke. Still has passion to go on for a bit I think.

I used to write my reports about 3 or so years ago. The change in the size of the players is unreal. Tambling, Jackson, White, Reiwoldt, Deledio, Moore, Mcguane, Thursfield, Raines etc are huge.

Mcmahn, Edwards, Jon, and a few younger ones are the thin ones. In comparison to 3 years ago the majoritory of the team were sticks.

Jake King and cousins look very similar in size and looks. Got them confused at the begining of training

JON actually looks alright. The players are using him a fair bit. He outran matt white. We all know how White can take off. one decision making he was pulled up for. But it was the player (forgot who) fault for demanding the ball with a loud yell. When I play footy a loud yell means they have a bit of space so pass it over. Where as this player didnt have space. Jon looks okay. I wouldn't dig into him too much.

Jackson I saw as a player with average skills. He's improved, he'll play the taggers role with out a doubt.

Moore had some work done on his hip, so is only just back into full training. Tambling the same, not sure what he had done.

although Cogs was awsome a few years ago, he may remain that. Skills are average, pace is slower and his fitness looks average. His toughness in the middle may be what saves him. Hopefully we get something. But I wouldnt hold my breath.

thats bout all. if i remember anything ill post it up:thumbsu:

Another thing was when they came over to have a drink the first time, all the boys were very vocal, reeving each other up, in particular Jack. I didn't get all of what he said something about appreciation. The point is it was good to see the boys so vocal and talking.

They didnt really look interested did they?

Royal I think it was. I actually asked him about spies. He said they could watch if they liked, today didnt matter.
There were no tactics or gameplans to give away. :thumbsu:

He was looking for someone though.

Jack is fantastic for the club. He's an outgoing bloke who is very vocal and supportive of his teammates. Always smiling. It was a good decision to take him when we did, dispite the dissagreement of a few bigfooty members

I couldn't believe how massive Kelvin Moore was either. He is huge now.

Great reports, I too would have contributed but being female, my attention was somewhat focused on Ben for most of the session.

At the end I did notice Dean Polo being absolutely wrapped a kid went up to him with no.14 on his jumper looking for an autograph. Dean was chatting away to him for ages, asking whether he plays, position etc.
Just seems like a VERY nice bloke.

Also saw the boys from the AIS and Nathan Buckley was there with them. When Lids was being interviewed Bucks told them to get in tight to hear the conversation.. Most likely preparing them for the other aspects of AFL football.

That's all I've got to add, the other reports are pretty spot on :thumbsu:

Decent sized crowds too. Ived been to a few pre-season seassions a while back and the crowd sizes have doubled even three times the size. Ben's getting a crowd along I think. :thumbsu:

It wasn't royal. I'm not sure who it was but they probably sent people out all around to check different locations.

Btw, guys i was on tv. When lids is being interviewed do u see a 16 year old kid with a red shirt and a tigers cap in the background, thats me:cool:

Woah, this thread is moving fast today; my training write up from yesterday seem almost irrelevant. I'll do it anyway;

Training for 13/1/09 @ Punt Road:
Only about 12 players trained; from memory there was Tambling, Schulz, Hughes, Polo, Putt, Rance (I think, as there's no one else it could be, but it didn't really look like him; was playing with a soccer ball a fair bit if anyone can help...), Hughes, JON, Newman (after about an hour), and some others that I've forgotten by now.

- Robert Harvey came up in the stand to watch. The spying prick.
- Tambling looks big!!!
- JON still as awkward re. kicking as ever.
- Hughes relatively small (height)
- Putt is HUGE

That's about all I took from it. Wasn't too exciting a training tbh. If the bloke Dad and I think is Rance is, then we have an awesome player on our hands; seen him train twice, and he's gunned it both times!

Thanks to all for the training reports...

Still looking for some info on Cotchin though.
Does ANYONE know how he is coming along?

Yeah i spoke to one of the trainers and he said that he has a sore achilies and he may join the main group next week, and he might miss the first nab game just to rest up, AND!!! i asked him about cousins progress and his fitness and he said that he is def going to play round 1:thumbsu::thumbsu::D
