Stiller's was probably worse IMO, but overall, our players seem to crack under pressure.

Re: AFL Round 9 Adelaide V Brisbane Lions
I know this topic is kind of taboo on this forum, but I think the game has gone past Black.
When the ball isn't in his hands, he doesn't add anything to the team.
When he does have the ball, he is easily pressured due to his lack of speed, which hurts his disposal efficiency... what will vossy do?

Re: AFL Round 9 Adelaide V Brisbane Lions
The good news is that I'm taking the family to the States in late June.
The bad news is that, with the split round, we're only going to miss one game (v Blues @ Etihad).

I disagree. Black was our only contributor in a few of our past games. I agree that he, like many of his mates, looked like the game had gone past them yesterday. I still think Black adds a bit to our team, but we probably tend to unreasonably judge him quite high considering the stage of his career.

Re: AFL Round 9 Adelaide V Brisbane Lions
Black is still a star performer at stoppages, but time does seem to be catching up with him in terms of general play. It is no surprise that as a player gets older, they do get a little slower, with all of the problems that brings, but the great thing about Black is he isn't losing his football sense or his "hard at it" honesty.
Our midfield, which has been awful in terms of clearances for the best part of two years, would be a complete shambles without Black. The problem is, the time will come when he retires and the big question is, who is going to step up then?

We beat the Dogs in clearances without Black in round 4, perhaps like many other have stated that there is a bit of "leave it to Blacky" when he's playing.

Re: AFL Round 9 Adelaide V Brisbane Lions
Players like Rockliff, Buchanon, Stiller and Power only had little bursts of good play and went missing for the rest of the game so I assume these are some of the 6 or 7 players Voss was talking about as not doing the right things and putting in the effort.
Our kicking out of defence was poor. Melbourne and Adelaide beat us because they played on quickly but we do the exact opposite. Can't really recall us going straight down the middle from a kick out so the confidence in kick outs must be really down with the loss of Drummond.
Leuey had more hitouts than all of Adelaide's hit outs but he doesn't seem able to knock them to advantage.
Staker had a decent game and there are quite a few players that had a worse game than him.
Adcock is seriously down on form and doesn't look 100% fit and ..... just found out he is going to be indefinitely on the injury list

There are more shutouts than you think. Including Essendon last year, and Sydney and Hawthorn the year before.

I said in another thread that I believe we would have won the game had one of those gone in. We were definitely on the up but instead of drawing level or going in front, Adelaide took it from the kick-in to a goal at the other end and then their tails were up again.
There is no excuse for a professional footballer to miss from those spots.

This is a common theme. I'm not sure whether we can say Leuey is not tapping it to advantage or the mids are not getting into the right positions. Probably a bit of both.

I thought he did we overall. He still dropped a few clangers but I would say he had more positives than negatives.

This myth that Drummond is some superstar kicking the ball in is absolute bollocks. When have we ever looked good the past 5 years kicking in?
It's not Drummond's fault. It's the general laziness of our entire team further up the ground to do any hard work at all.

Re: AFL Round 9 Adelaide V Brisbane Lions
perfect analogy...lappin in the early 2000's busting his ring to run back and help out defence
we just don't have that anymore
not enough 1%
not enough busting guts, throwing up from effort
as i said before, we need to have a thorough medical/football club review at the end of this year
questions...why do we normally suffer from the most number of injuries to our best players in the afl???? training methods??? injury management???? flogged too hard not enough???
football review,,,,,why did we pick up an ex richmond player as a coach...hardly from a winning culture.....why do we struggle with kick ins/clearances????? not enough attention to detail as to blocking/positioning???
why have we not even tried a huddle this year from a kickout??? how do other teams break a zone defence where we struggle
all pertinent questions
