I'm lead to believe that the appointment of Greaves to Leopold was not the clubs first preference. Troy Mitchell was their main target.

Good get 19th man, you`re right on the money. Believe Troy was somewhat keen but unsure if he could commit 100% to the task.

I also am led to believe the value of the package offerred to Tony Brown to play in the Amateurs in Melbourne is far greater than anything he could get in the GFL. The benefits far outweigh a "match payment".

Do you know the current status of Paul Lynch ?

I spoke to Sam a few weeks ago, said he had a meeting with Lara but he wasnt going there. Take that as you will.

Now if David Mitchell is going too Ammos that is huge. With Robertson, Zaparenkov and Mitchell they will be a huge chance for the flag. Why would Clark leave.

Sam Clark wont be a second forward he willplay on ball/half forward. Its frightening to say but he is a better on baller than full forward (where he kicked a ton).

Get on the Ammos.
with the loss of clarke and mountjoy it would hurt ammos, considering these two a prominant ball winners and clarke being realistically thier only avenue to goal, whoever the new signings they would want to be pretty awesome to lift the side to a flag

What's the go with the mass exudus at Newcomb?
.

No $$$ left.

The club has basically bought a couple of flags, and good on them. But they still have no juniors coming through and that sort of thing can only last for so long if there is no kids coming through, eventually the money runs out.

It has happened to Barwon Heads and Portarlington look at them now.

The strong clubs such as Ocean Grove, Geelong Amateurs and Torquay have fantastic junior systems and steady streams of kids coming through. Thats why they are successful year in year out.

It will catch up with Newcomb eventually.

i know i said this year about modewarre but next year in season 2008 watch out for them boys, with kent butcher coachin them and aswell pullin on the boots and with kent bringing some of his mates bout 5 or soo of them to play at modda next year U better watch out for modewarre boys, and aswell jackson bolten also playin and all the ex modewarre boys from simpson

pffft fat chance mate, modda are and will remain cellar dwellars in the bfl. they have a terrible junior rank, therefore leading to a dismal future

He turned up to our vote count a couple of sundeys ago a mate of former St marys player steve shultz! And he is a spitting image to west coast player Matt Pridis well the hair anyways.

I also hear player retention (which has always been a problem out there) will cause some headaches for Modda over the summer with Scott Hovey & Adam Leslie heading down to the CDFL. Several other players are rumoured to be heading into Geelong as well.....

If Newcomb have bought a couple of flags why are the following from the premiership squad all Newcomb juniors?:

D Mahoney, L Morrison, G Drought, C Morrison, G Costello, A Robinson, J Drake, D Williams, S Evans, S O'Neill, B Drake, A Hill, D Miles, M Drought

Probably only Drysdale would have more locals playing for their team - you can prove me wrong if you like

It could have been worse - could have spent money on so-called quality players like Barwon Heads and Anakie and not won

All teams can do is win flags!!!!

Luke Forbes will remain at Joeys next year after signing with them this week, along Josh Rudd and Dean Stankavic.

You make a reasonable point but how long ago did those guys play junior there. I would say at least 6 years plus.

Newcomb dont even have an U/18 side so i guess that would mean they have no juniors coming through.

Also i would say Geelong Amateurs have a fair percentage of former junior playing in their senior side. In fact when they won the flag a few years ago i am pretty sure all but maybe 3 or 4 had not played juniors at the club.

Also i would think Torquay would have a fair amount of 'locals" playing for them as do Ocean Grove.

You make a good point - Ocean Grove and Ammos definitely but Torquay don't have many any more. Let's just hope the mighty Power are around long enough for me to play 12 games to get to my 100th!!

Or maybe not - Clarke, Mountjoy and Closter officially to Lara...:thumbsu:

I know, i officially stand corrected. A move that surprises me though.

A good thing about it is that hopefully we dont have to put up with Mountjoy's loud mouth annoying mum on the balcony any more.

How do you think the 2 Ammo's boys will go in the GFL Hulkster?

Sam Clark is a freak and will go very well in the GFL. IMO he is good enough to play AFL if he had the desire, but its a bit late now.

Tristan Mountjoy will go ok. He is super quick, but not that hard at the footy so he may find the physical nature of the GFL a bit of an adjustment especially in the confines of the Snakepit. Will be a reasonable player but no star.
