(A full running sheet for the day's events will be distributed later this week)

TAC Cup Grand Final, Calder Cannons v Eastern Ranges at 10.15am

2 IMPENDING MILESTONES

200 games -- Chris Scott, Brisbane Lions

Most Premierships Coached -- Leigh Matthews, Brisbane Lions. Should the Lions win this week, it will be Leigh Matthews' fifth premiership as a coach, taking him to equal third on the all-time list. Jock McHale (eight flags with Collingwood), Norm Smith (six flags with Melbourne), Jack Worrall (three flags with Carlton and two flags with Essendon) and Checker Hughes (one flag with Richmond and four flags with Melbourne) are the only coaches ahead of Matthews.

Most Premierships, Player and Coach -- Leigh Matthews, Brisbane Lions. Should the Lions win this week, it will be Leigh Matthews' ninth premiership as a player and coach. Norm Smith (four premierships as a player and six as a coach all with Melbourne) and Ron Barassi (six premierships as a player with Melbourne, two as a coach with Carlton and two as a coach with North Melbourne) jointly hold the record at 10. Jock McHale (one premiership as a player, one premiership as a captain/coach and seven premierships as a coach all with Collingwood) is in second spot on the all-time list, ahead of Matthews.

Longest Premiership Span -- Leigh Matthews, Brisbane Lions. Should the Lions win this week, Leigh Matthews will have been a part of premierships 33 years apart. He already holds the record of 32 years, between the 1971 premiership with Hawthorn and last year's premiership with Brisbane. Kevin Sheedy is placed second with 31 years between the 1969 premiership with Richmond and the 2000 premiership with Essendon.

Most Premierships, Player -- Martin Pike, Brisbane Lions. Should the Lions win this week, Martin Pike will become only the 22nd player in history to be part of five or more premierships. A full list is on page 587 of AFL 2004.

Most Finals, Player -- Martin Pike, Brisbane Lions. This week's game will be Pike's 27th final, taking him into the top 10 in the history of the game. The leaders are Michael Tuck (39 finals with Hawthorn), Gordon Coventry (31 with Collingwood), Leigh Matthews (29 with Hawthorn), Bruce Doull (29 with Carlton), Wayne Schimmelbusch (29 with North Melbourne), Bill Hutchison (28 with Essendon), Chris Mew (28 with Hawthorn), Gary Ayres (28 with Hawthorn), Harry Collier (27 with Collingwood), ******** Reynolds (27 with Essendon) and Kevin Bartlett (27 with Richmond).

Premierships with Different Clubs -- Gavin Wanganeen, Byron Pickett, Damien Hardwick. Should Port Adelaide win this week, Wanganeen, Pickett and Hardwick would become the 22nd, 23rd and 24th player respectively in history to play in a premiership with two different clubs.

3 TRIBUNAL

The AFL Tribunal is due to sit at 5pm tomorrow, Tuesday September 21, to hear the following charge laid from the weekend's matches:

Steve Johnson, Geelong, reported by umpire Hayden Kennedy for charging Luke Power, Brisbane Lions, during the second quarter of the Second Preliminary Final between Geelong and the Brisbane Lions, played at the MCG on Saturday September 18, 2004.

4 VIDEO REVIEW

The process for the AFL video review during the season is that Video Reports Officer Ian Robinson (or Peter Carey when Ian is unavailable) will review all footage of particular incidents as soon as it is available to him. The AFL will immediately then advise if he has laid a report or the brief reasons why he has cleared a matter, but he will not be available for media interviews through the 2004 season.

5 GRAND FINAL DAY PRESENTERS

The AFL wishes to advise the post-game presenters for the 2004 Toyota AFL Grand Final are:
Norm Smith Medal -- Wayne Harmes (25 years since Harmes was awarded the first Norm Smith medal in 1979)
Jock McHale Medal -- John Kennedy (following on from Charlie Sutton as next living premiership coach in order)
Premiership Cup, if Port Adelaide -- John Cahill (played in four premierships and coached 10 premierships with the club)
Premiership Cup, if Brisbane Lions -- Bernie Quinlan (dual century goal kicker with Fitzroy and Hall of Fame Member)

6 NORM SMITH MEDAL JUDGES

The media judging panel for the 2004 Norm Smith Medal, to be awarded for the best player in the Grand Final, is:
Bruce Abernethy (Triple M SA), Digby Beacham (Sunday Times), Clinton Grybas (3AW), Michael Turner (K Rock) and Roger Vaughan (AAP).

7 GRAND FINAL PARADE -- MEDIA CONFERENCE

The 2004 AFL Grand Final Parade will be held through the streets of the City of Melbourne this Friday, September 24. The Parade will commence at 12.15pm in St Kilda Road, adjacent to the Victoria Arts Centre, travel north into Swanston Street, before turning right into Collins Street. The Parade will conclude at approximately 12.50pm with the presentation of the teams to the public on the steps of the Treasury Building. 2004 National's AFL Rising Star Jared Rivers and the 2004 Brownlow Medallist(s) will be in the early part of the parade, before the Grand Final umpires. They will be followed by Port Adelaide, with the Brisbane Lions to conclude the parade.

Following the Parade, the coaches and captains of both teams will attend the official 2004 Pre-Match Media Conference. The Parade and this media conference will be telecast live by the Fox Footy Channel.

Important Media Notes
1. Only Media with official AFL 2004 season accreditation will be admitted inside the barriers along the parade route. Accreditation can be either finals or home and away accreditation but media who do not have AFL accreditation will be kept behind the barriers with the public.

2. The camera stand on the steps of Treasury Building is for the exclusive use of the Fox Footy Channel crew telecasting the presentation live. All other crews and photographers will have to remain at ground level in front of the steps of the Treasury Building (ie; in front of the public barriers and shooting up at the teams), and will not be able to stand on the steps of the building and block the public or disabled viewing area.

3. Space for television crews at the media conference will be at a premium, due to crews travelling from Adelaide and Brisbane respectively. The AFL will assign all crew spots at the back of the room, with preference given to sports news crews. All general news crews will have to take footage from this conference from their sports crews, as their will not be space for multiple crews from each station. As such, news departments need to be aware they will have to obtain footage from their sports crews, or the Fox Footy Channel telecast.

Good choices. Didn't realise that they had 2 options for this, but it makes sense.

Media?? Digby??? Why not have 3-4 AFL legends do the vote, or the other 14 AFL coaches? Considering what Timmy Watson's been saying about his show's award... doesn't having the media vote devalue the Norm?

Hope the lines don't block traffic or cause any injuries in the crush
