Can anyone post a short video from an old Fitzroy match (preferably at youtube)? I wasn't a fan of this game when they were a team, so it would be cool to see a good, short fitzroy video.

Great idea! There should be more Fitzroy and Aussie Rules on Youtube.

These are the only clips I have featuring the Royboys, from the 1989 Reserves Grand Final. The video quality is only average but they are watchable. Enjoy!

Go Roys!

Any stuff with the seniors?

Unfortunately I don't have any Fitzroy games on hand at the moment, but I'm hoping this will change after Christmas. Stay tuned! :thumbsu:

For the time being, here's a couple of short clips with a distinct Fitzroy flavour. Fans of the classic "World of Sport" TV show might enjoy them too!

Here's a video to warm the hearts of old Roy Boys everywhere. The frantic final moments of Fitzroy v Collingwood - Round 11, 1992.

I had the privilege of watching this match sitting with the Fitzroy Cheer Squad below the Robert Heatley Stand. Without spoiling the outcome for those who haven't seen this footage, let me just say that this is one my proudest and most cherished memories of the Fitzroy Lions.

Enjoy!

Hey Roar, can you find footage of Fitzroy's final victory vs. Freo in 1996?

Unfortunately I don't have any footage of that happy day, but I do have some footage of Fitzroy's final game in Melbourne - a much sadder occasion for old Roy Boys. :(

Some interesting scenes in the vid. The "Brisbane No!" and "F--k the AFL" banners in the crowd. Wonder how those same people felt when the Lions won their first of 3 consecutive flags just 5 years later.

The other interesting thing was seeing fans allowed out on the ground after the game. I thought that was outlawed yonks ago?

I might be mistaken, but I think the protocol was that fans were only allowed onto the ground for a bit of kick-to-kick AFTER a second siren had sounded, once the ground staff had roped off the center square and the players had left the arena.

What I do know for certain is that there was no stopping the Fitzroy fans on that cold Sunday afternoon, siren or no siren. Once a few of us had jumped the fence, it was all-in. We would never see our team play in Melbourne again and this was our only opportunity to say goodbye. The thin cordon of security guards never had a chance. This was, after all, our last great act of defiance against the AFL.

Fitzroy v Collingwood - Round 11, 1992

I knew what happened before I watched it, but what a great finish

Here's a Fitzroy video made even more poignant with the retirement of Chris Johnson.

Unfortunately my copy of this game finishes with Channel 7's quaint Dean Martin tribute and does not include the haunting rendition of "Auld Lang Syne". However I've grafted on the closing scenes of the "Fitzroy: At Their Best" video which does include the song.

Perhaps Drew Morphett described it best. The passing of Fitzroy was "...the end of an era, the end of an age!"

What a video, the demise of Fitzroy really was such an emotional event and the end of an era.

Great work Mighty Roar

Righto, enough depressing Fitzroy videos. Here's one of the Roy Boys tasting premiership success, albeit for the last time. The final moments and victory celebrations of the 1989 Reserves Grand Final!

Great sign by the bloke with 57 seconds left: F--K THE AFL

Time for another trip down memory lane. This time we go all the way back to 1994.

Before the days of Pay TV and newfangled interweb technology, the AFL produced a semi-regular VHS highlights package entitled "Football Record Video". Not sure if they were all hosted by Gary Lyon, but Volume 3 - Issue 2 certainly was.

Gary introduces highlights of recent games, interviews with players and supporters along with special reports on the hot topics of the day. This particular edition features a piece on some of Fitzroy's talented youth, which the rear video cover describes as "...a pack of hungry young players, the equal of any in the League."

Enjoy, and GO ROYS! :)

OK, this video features the Brisbane Lions but it's Fitzroy-related nevertheless.
