Bob Francis just announced on 5aa he had just been informed by a reliable source that Kevin Crease has just died.

ps. this can be moved to the OT board if u like just thought it was relevant here as he was a port supporter.

THE first face of television in Adelaide has died. Kevin Crease, the popular Channel 9 newsreader, succumbed to cancer.

Crease, 71, had been off-air since February, when he returned from annual leave feeling unwell. Tests confirmed he had a serious form of cancer.

Breaking into radio after being noticed spruiking raincoats on the streets, he had been a fixture of the South Australian media for 48 years.

Crease was the first person on Adelaide TV screens when Channel 9 began broadcasting in 1959.

He also worked for Channel 7 and radio station 5AD. Crease was former premier Don Dunstan's press secretary from 1975 to 1977.

In April, 1987, he became a news presenter for the Channel 9 weeknight bulletin. His partnership with Rob Kelvin lasted for almost two decades.

"If I was up to it, I would still be reading the news," he said recently.

Rest in peace big guy. Remember seeing him come out while Frenzal Rhomb were playing at the Big Day Out, in his jacket, shirt, tie and boxer shorts.

Channel 9 won't be the same or TV generally in SA. At least he didn't linger for too long, poor man. All the best to Kevin's family. He was a Power /Port supporter?

I wouldn't mind a minute silence before the Showdown. Not that its football related but he was a South Australian icon and so is the Showdown. He loved footy and Port Adelaide so I think it would be fitting :thumbsu:

Some of my earliest TV memories are of Kevin Crease doing the news and actual current affairs on Channel 9 (Newsbeat IIRC) - not the sham CA shows on offer now. Always a dignified yet still upbeat presence on our screens - a quirky SOH lurked close to the surface.

It's a sad loss. Bye Creasey. :(

RIP Creasey!

Television News just won't be the same without him, not in this state anyway.

Black arm bands for sure but being the humble bloke he is he would probably look down and wonder why all the hoo-ha.

Top bloke!

Terrible news indeed. :(

I like Fords comment about a quirky sense of humour lurking beneath the surface. He reminds me of the silly Grandpa type figure, I bet he has told a few bad jokes around the dinner table.

RIP Creasy.
