Like a lot of this season...last night, if he'd kicked straight, he would have walked away with a perfectly acceptable performance.
We know he can kick very accurately...so I don't think it's a major cause for concern.
Maybe Rawlings is giving kicking pointers to a bloke who needed none?

What are you trying to say IDGAF.
You are normally a lot more forgiving than that.
I still think that he can be a good player but don't think we will see his best until there is no Richo in the forward line.
I just have this uneasy feeling that if we let him go he will get picked up really cheaply by another team and turn in to a really good FF.
But, this said he really is not doing enough with the chances he has been given, but I still think we should honor the final year of his contract.
Lets face it there is still plenty ahead of him that we need to cull.

Five years is enough ... IMHO .
Is he really contracted next year ? didn`t know that.
Clearly not up to the rigors of AFL footy . How long has Ray Hall had ? My point is he is in the same basket as Rayo ... we hold onto these blokes for too long ... dead wood .
i really hope they broker a deal for him ... if some of still feel he has value , then i hope other clubs do as well

The main reason why Schulz has gone backwards this season is his kicking for goal.
In the past few years even is he got three shots on goal, he'd nail all three.
he doesn't get enough of the pill to be awarded the luxury of the kicking yips á la Richo.

And Ray Hall is 5 years older than Jay so he may warrant a couple more.
I don't think we will get any trade value out of him so I reckon we should send him around for another year and see. At 22 he is still relatively young and I think our de-listings will come mainly from the older group this year , and perhaps starting to weed out more of the younger blokes from 2008 onwards.
Ray Hall is a totally different situation.
If he is retained on the list then I will declare right now that there are 3 Richmond memberships that will not be purchased next year.

What a ludicrous comment. As a raw kid he had a spot in the best side we've put on the park this century, and certainly earned his place in it. He's been a certainty for best-22 selection every time he's been fit for Wallace's entire tenure.
But now he's suddenly not good enough to be even listed? Based on his form when playing injured on the best in the land?
When we've spent the season watching 'stars' like Raines and Johnson butcher the ball far more often than Hall ever did?
Hall would have been on Lloyd or Hille/Laycock, or playing first ruck if he was fit last night, and we would have been a better side for it.

Schulz will put it together and if our on field performances improve, so will confidence.
If he had take that hanger last night, people would have raved about him.
Its a workrate issue with Jay, if the coaching staff can work him out, he will be a real asset.

Thats just a result of 25 years of mediocrity that have made us overrate average players and want to hang on to players indefinetely that should show promise but dont.
The new breed of Richmond player is Jake King. Tenacious, tough, hungry and desperate to make an impact and win a game of footy.

Spot on about Kingy 1980 ... runs himself ragged , was running on fumes at the end of the game last night , but picked himself up and still kept on going . Put his engine in schulz and you would have a player . Kingy has a 351 cleve under the bonnet , Schulz has got the grunt of a Datsun 180B in the body of a Leyland P76

If anything richmond supporters are the exact opposite. We've seen that much CRAP over the past 2 and a half decades that we are too harsh on players. FFS I have seen numerous ppl on these boards want to can tambling, JON, meyer among others bc they struggle in their 2nd and 3rd seasons. Schulz is still young enough to come good. I'll put em on the line and back him, he'll come good, the boys got game.

Not if he's traded he aint!!!! He's had more than enough chances. He still owes this club bigtime and unfortunately his window is closing fast.

not key forwards they dont.
I dont for one minute want shulz bc i "hope" he can do what he did to mal Michael a few years ago. I want him bc I rekn he has the tools to be a very good full forward.
I laugh when I see ppl say "no matter we have steamer and jack" fact is both of them arent full forwards and never will be, they are both Half forwards. They dont have the quick acceleration necessary to be a dangerous leading FF. Schulz does and has very good timing on his leads. Soft hands and a normally reliable shot for goal = enough to suggest he can be valuable if it clicks.
Of course he has some issues, namely a laxidaisical(sp) demeanor which makes him look like a very lazy and disinterested footballer, but thats simply not the case. Puts his body on the line and I thought his attack on the ball yesterday was acceptable. If he can f.ucking get through a full preseason for once I have no doubt whatsoever that 2008 will be a breakout season

as usual montana i agree with u. Schulz is still a year younger than "young" Kingy, who has the advantage of playing loose in the backline, no one trying to spoil him and the luxury of 90% uncontested possessions. Not knocking King (although I'm not sold on anything but his go either) but it is so much harder to be a target forward than a small defender it's not funny. Anyone who says otherwise has never played as a key forward and shows a complete lack of understanding of the game. That's why good key forwards are worth their weight in gold. Schulz's was a perfectly acceptable effort last night. Attacked it hard and does have one of the 3 best pairs of hands at richmond (after richo & polak) and apart from this year has been a great kick for goal. Give him an injury-free run at it and he's a 50+ goal a year man. Along with richo and brown that's 3 doing that, plus petts and dildo chipping in with 30-odd each and it's a potent forward line. Get rid of rawlings i say. If you're going to have a forward coach make it a bloke who was actually a good forward himself!
