Re: FFFX: Richmond's Revival? (2008) - My first story
Hawks hit the top as Tigers continue to confuse
by Tatenda Blignaut - Saturday, May 10 2008
Hawthorn went to the top of the ladder on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Richmond by 55 points at the MCG. The Tigers outscored the Hawks in three of the four quarters, but the one they didn’t they conceded eleven goals to zero. Grant Birchall was best on ground with 38 disposals but Jarryd Roughead’s four goals, including one contender for ‘Goal of the Year’ was nothing short of a spectacular performance.
Richmond continue to befuddle the footballing public with their ultra-hot or ultra-cold displays, coach Tom Flanagan was disappointed at the side’s inconsistency, “The side is young but we need to stop these two or three quarter games, we need to run out the full game from start to finish and that’s the main thing we’re working on at the moment.”
Hawthorn......0.5 .....2.8 .....13.12 ........16.14 (110)
Richmond......2.4 .....4.8 .......4.10 .........7.13 ..(55)
Best:
Hawthorn: Birchall, Roughead, Young, Thorp, Mitchell, Franklin, Croad.
Richmond: J.Bowden, Newman, Raines, Tivendale, Brown.
Goals:
Hawthorn: Roughead 4, Mitchell 3, Thorp 2, Clarke, Franklin, Dickfos, Jacobs, Young, Bateman, Guerra
Richmond: Brown 3, Riewoldt, Tivendale, Bowden, Deledio.
Happy Hawks: Jarryd Roughead celebrates his
'Goal of the Year' contender from the boundary as
the Hawks cleaned up the Tigers by nine goals.

Re: FFFX: Richmond's Revival? (2008) - My first story
Demons smash record books
by Lou Bond - Sunday, May 11 2008
Melbourne has made a new mark in VFL/AFL history by not only eclipsing, but hammering both the highest score and greatest winning margin records. Against Carlton on Sunday, the Demons booted 40.29 (269), destroying the Blues by 256 points. Carlton for the second consecutive week have only scored two goals, firstly against lowly Richmond and now this. Russell Robertson kicked 15 goals in the onslaught, a personal best and the most goals ever kicked at Telstra Dome. Brett Ratten is now under serious pressure as coach of the Blues and the playing group seem to be doing nothing to help his cause.
Highest Ever Scores
2008, Melbourne ...40.29 (269)
1992, Geelong ......37.17 (239)
1979, Fitzroy ...k...36.22 (238)
1987, Sydney kkkk.36.20 (236)
1991, Hawthorn .kk36.15 (231)
Melbourne......7.9 ......18.12 .....31.20 .....40.29 (269)
Carlton..........1.1 .........1.1 ........2.1 .........2.1 .(13)
Goals:
Melbourne: Robertson 15, Davey 7, McLean 4, Whelan 3, Bruce 3, Sylvia 3, Newton, White, Frawley, Green, McDonald.
Carlton: Hartlett, Teague.
15 Reasons to celebrate: Russell Robertson marks in front
of Michael Jamison on the way to 15 goals against Carlton.

Last time they met: West Coast 18.9 (117) def. Richmond 12.14 (86) at Subiaco, Round 20 2007.
Three goals in succession to the Tigers just before three-quarter time had the visitors within nine points and it took Quinten Lynch with seven goals to keep the Tigers at bay. The 31-point margin could have been much closer had the Tigers’ erratic star Matthew Richardson not missed three eminently gettable chances in the final quarter.
Inaccuracy kills: Matthew Richardson stands in disbelief after missing yet another easy chance to goal.
Betting:
West Coast $1.02, Richmond $9.50.

Re: FFFX: Richmond's Revival? (2008) - My first story
Tigers conjure the upset of all upsets
by Harwood McDonald - Saturday, May 17 2008
Richmond have come back from a five goal deficit in the last quarter to beat a full strength West Coast outfit in Perth on Saturday afternoon. Brett Deledio starred for the Tigers with 31 possesions and four goals while Matt Priddis was best on for the Eagles with 33 touches and three goals.
A high scoring opening quarter saw seven goals apiece after Adam Pattison and Kayne Pettifer each booted two first quarter majors. The second was fairly even with neither side really breaking away but an expectation West Coast would run over Richmond in the second half only trailing by four points. It seemed that they were breaking away in the opening of the third term with five goals to one to hold a 24 point lead into the final change, and a convincing 32-point lead in the opening minutes of the final term. The Tigers then dug deep and booted eight unanswered goals to run out winners by 22 points. Joel Bowden and Jake King were again excellent when the push came to shove with 13 final quarter possesions each.
West Coast..........7.2 .........9.4 .........14.10 .......15.10 (100)
Richmond............7.2 .........9.8 .........10.10 .......18.14 (122)
Best:
West Coast: Priddis, Rosa, Braun, Butler.
Richmond: Deledio, J.Bowden, King, Polak, Riewoldt, Hyde, Raines.
Goals:
West Coast: Priddis 3, Hurn 2, Hansen 2, Butler 2, Rosa 2, Nicoski 2, Stenglein, Staker.
Richmond: Deledio 4, Cotchin 3, Pettifer 2, Pattison 2, King, P.Bowden, J.Bowden, Johnson, Tuck, Foley, Riewoldt.
Injuries:
Richmond: Brown (hamstring), Polak (hamstring).
WHAT A WIN!: Richmond fans who made the long trek to Perth celebrate after their huge upset win over the Eagles.
