Adam Selwood launches legal action
Article from: Sunday Herald Sun

October 21, 2007 12:00am
WEST COAST midfielder Adam Selwood has begun legal action against broadcaster John Laws over comments during the Des Headland tattoo saga.
Selwood denied any wrongdoing in the round 3 Fremantle clash and was cleared in the AFL tribunal.
An image of Headland's daughter, Madisan, 6, is tattooed on one of his arms. It was alleged Selwood made remarks about the tattoo, including calling it "a ****".
Laws was scathing of Selwood in his morning program with radio 2UE.
Selwood and his management confirmed action had been instigated.
2UE general manager Simon Ruhfus said there was no defamation case but "certain demands" had been made.
"Certainly, the demands have been put forward and we're in the process of considering it," he said.
"I'm hopeful both parties can reach a satisfactory outcome."

Re: Adam Selwood V John Laws
It would be nice if he could get alot from him, but it will probably just be an on-air apology or retraction (mind you I've never heard John Laws, is he the type to apologise or will he fight this?)

Re: Adam Selwood V John Laws
Bad timing , they should have waited until after the commission sits before announcing this.
Regardless of the rights or wrongs in this case , the last thing you blokes need at the moment is more publicity about events that have happened though the season.

Why should they wait a month? Do you think this is going to prejudice the commissions decision? I fear you are underestimating the intelligence of the commissioners if you feel this law suit is going to affect anything to do with any punishment the commission hands down.
John Laws made some ridiculous comments earlier in the year. Selwood's camp claimed legal action will be likely. They waited to the season was over and are now initiating that legal action. A few weeks ago there were people on the main board claiming no law suit would happen and it was a bullshit claim by his people. Now they are coming good on it and you are saying they should delay it even further?
Can't win, can we?

A month is not going to make any difference to the outcome of the action.
I am just making the point that it would have been more prudent to wait until then before re-opening old wounds and creating more publicity.
It is a bit of a risk as no one knows what unexpected stuff may come up and the commission will take a dim view of any further brand damage.
Remember , Selwood was made to apologise to women by the AFL.
I am not going to argue about the rights and wrongs of the case on the WC board , that is for WC supporters.

Re: Adam Selwood V John Laws
We probably just asked for a verbal retraction on air. No point trying to sue him.

Agreed.. No one knows the truth about this saga yet. Whether he said something rude or not. Some fat guy on a microphone should not be able to defame him.
