More info on Barnaby French

Big ruckman from SA club Sturt, he was a champion junior rower representing Australia at under-23 level. He only played a couple of years of secondary school football and a mate talked him into playing for a team in the Adelaide Hills.

He had a few injury problems, including a broken thumb, early in his AFL career. In 1999 he took on more responsibility when Matthew Primus was sidelined with a knee injury.

He broke a leg in the Ansett Cup Grand Final of 2001 and did not return to the seniors until late in the year.

Although a regular, his workload was limited by the presence of Primus and he sought fresh fields with Carlton, traded to the Blues at the end of the 2002 season.
