Training 17.01.08
Today's training session on Max Basheer Reserve was not as intense or as long as yesterday's, with half the group making their way inside about an hour or so into the session.
As usual, the players ran through their usual warm up of a kick to kick, stretching and some jogging. Patrick Dangerfield, Jonathon Griffin, Nick Gill and Aaron Kite participated out in the middle this morning. However Graeme Johncock wasn't out and Andrew McLeod was still nowhere to be seen.
A more organised kick to kick followed, with the players in three main groups, with half at either end of the oval. They were spread out over a reasonable distance, meaning they had to run and carry the ball a bit. Once on the other side, they would receive a short kick from a trainer and pass back. Next, they were told to move back about 5 metres and the kicks were landing just in front of the on running player, so they would effectively have to pick the ball up off the ground.
The next drill involved six players in one group, with four standing on a corner of a rectangle. The aim was for the players on the outside to kick the ball to each other, avoiding the two players inside the rectangle. After a couple of goes, the call was to keep moving the ball and not to hang on to it for too long.
After a fair while completing the above drill, some goal kicking practice followed. The majority of the time was spent on set shots, but some players would pick the ball off the ground and have a snap at goal. Afterwards each player reported their score to a trainer and about six players had to have a shot for goal in front of the whole group. From what I could tell, the players were the younger guys (Taylor Walker, Patrick Dangerfield, Brodie Martin etc).
At this point, the majority of the group made their way back to the change rooms and the remaining players put on their sneakers. They went for a jog, first around the whole block (around Crows Shed and AAMI Stadium) but their following couple of laps were just around the reserve. Patrick Dangerfield spent some time refining his kick with coach, Peter Jonas. They appeared to be working on his drop of the ball. Nathan van Berlo and Ben Rutten stayed out to complete some more goal kicking.
So just the one hour and a bit outdoor training session this morning. It was good to see some of the injured guys back out doing some light work with the main group, so hopefully they'll be into the full swing of things come Monday.
Some pics coming soon....

Re: Training 17.01.08
some possible corrections - the two earlier pics labelled Porplyzia I think are actually Bryce Campbell.

I assume this is set shot right, well Walker is kicking left footed.
Is he a right or left foot? When I went to training earlier, he was clearly right foot.

I like the frame on Vince. Great size for a mid... makes the other midfielders look small.
