Does ANT555 play Dream Team ???
If you could only pick one player from each of the last three essendon drafts for your dream team, which players would you pick?

2005 Ryder
2006 Jetta
2007 Myers

Hows Myers going and whats the chance of Myers starting in round 1? Thanks :)

He has had a bit of a hammy niggle but is over it now and training well by all reports.

It would be best to see how he goes in the NAB cup, if he gets a run, but i think he will play a reasonable amount of senior footy this year.

Hows Gumby going? is he looking like he will step it up?

Not sure how much supply he will have with lucas and lloyd along side.

Gumby hasn't resumed full training this preseason, as he had a bit of a hammy problem....
He'll be a good pick in next year's dreamteam, but I'd stay away from him this year...

at the end of last year i had neagle penned in as a definite bargain selection. but his continuing injury concern make it unlikely i'll take the risk.

I might pick up gumby as a forward probably as a cheap reserve if he is named for round 1. I hope Jetta is included in the forwards again this year and he should be reasonably cheap as well. Both players will go up in value if they play more than 3 games. Other young key forwards i would consider are Jack Reiwoldt/ Mitch Thorp/Tommahawk.

two words, monfries midfield?

thoughts?

is any significant signs pointing in that direction? training with that group?

cheers
Definately one to get. Jetta and Monfries will probably we the best value (from Essendon) for DT and SC IMO.

Monfries is due for a massive season this year because of all the hard work he's been putting in this pre-season + the opportunities he'll be getting in the midfield.

Monfries got plenty of midfield opportunities last year you may not of noticed because he barely got a touch there. His best position looks to be up forward with Davey, Lloyd and Lucas.

interesting take.
havent heard this type of reply yet, in particular from an essendon fan.

def be watching his nab cup form.

I'm surprised you didn't notice him when he was given mifdirld time late in the season.

I certainly noticed his 24 disposal, 2 goal game as a rotating MF player against the Blues.

I also noticed his 22 disposal , 7 mark, 1 goal game against Fremantle late in the season.

Im sure he would have easily had over 20 disposals in the last game against West Coast also, where he was given plenty of game time in the MF.

I would say that the signs are quite good and if i were to pick one player on the Essendon list to break into the MF on a more permanant basis it would be Gus.

cheers,

thats a much more common response from essendon fans etc.

however any significant evidence backing this move?
quotes from monfries or knights or lloydy themselves? just little hints?

or is it based on the fact he was shuffled thru the midfield last few rounds and showed signs

I think it is a combination of all of the above.

I am realistic about our MF and we certainly do need to improve vastly in this area before we can start to challenge again. We have 6-8 young players who have all been earmarked as potential MF players but i have my reservations on most. This is not to say that they can't be good players but i believe many will struggle to become established MF players. Gus is the one player who i actually feel very confident about. He has now played 50 games, 21 years old, good skills and can also play in and under. I also believe that the signs he showed late in the season were very promising. And yes, there has been little hints from Knight's that Gus will be played in the MF in 08. I agree with the earlier poster who siad that Jetta and Monfries could be the two steals for the SC/DT teams.

Cheers.

jobe watson if he could play 100+ minutes he would be a good pick up, DT wise, hes so efficient. averaged 85mins with a return of mid-high 80's average.

fitness issue? or the fact that he's not damaging enough wen he is out on the field that he doesnt warrant stanton like minutes?

I've picked Watson this year. I dont think Sheedy really gave the game time he deserved. Under Knights he's just gona rack them up. Great value IMO.

Thoughts on Jay Nash?

Hows he traveling, i think he has a lot of potential. Is capable of taking a mark, running with the ball and laying some good tackles. Had some fairly good games last year with 20+ possies.

Started almost every game on the bench
Despite being amongst the most effective players in the league, for possessions vs minutes

Alleged issues with previous coach
