JASON PORPLYZIA

J.Porplyzia is a true defintion of a "middle-tier" player in my eyes.
He is one of the main ambassadors for the future of the Adelaide Football Club along with players such as B.Reilly, C.Knights, B.Vince, N.Van Berlo, B.Symes, etc, etc.
The list goes on.

He is a third year player which is usually a good indication of improvement.
Most players usually have solid first years, maintain their form in their second years and take their football to the next level in their third years once they are fully used to the pace of the game and once their bodies are fully matured.

J.Porplyzia averages:

2006: 57
2007: 59
THIS YEAR: 85.8

With averages of 57 and 59 in his last two seasons and with the talk of him being given more opportunities this year, he had "VALUE" written all over him.
With this being said, i can not see him averaging anymore than 85-90 this year and that just falls short of the "premium" mark for me so i decided to overlook him.

I regret the decision to some extent and kudos to those who picked him up.
He could easily take you through the year as your 6th or 7th forward scoring 100 points or more on many occasions.

A keeper if you have him but not an upgrade target.

Re: Player Summary 7: J.Porpylyzia

exactly right and excellent summary.
i have him in my team and at the moment i dont have as a certain keeper for the 6th/7th spot, im very keen to see how he performs when reilly and knights and back and firing, and how his midfield time will hold up on their return. not to mention craig might start playing goodwin edwards mcleod through the middle a lot more, anyone who has him as a keeper should just keep an eye on that.
other then that been a very good pick so far
his consistentcy can be frustrating at times but does pull big scores to make up for it. has got 2 70's and 1 60 score, if he can covert these scores into 80-90 will become a gun

Re: Player Summary 7: J.Porpylyzia

Good report. I don't understand however, why you overlooked him because you thought he'd average 85-90? Makes no sense at all. I do agree however, that he is not someone to upgrade to, if you didn't have him from the start, you miss out.

I think for those teams with him, he has to stay in because the premium forwards are struggling at the moment, BJ, JB, SJ, Riewoldt, Chappy, etc. He'll be close to a straight swap for one of these premiums in a few weeks.

Another thing to factor in is that he has been playing with that injured shoulder. It makes you wonder whether to keep him on as your 7th forward because after the breaks he might be 100% to go although as the above posts mention, Reilly and Knights coming back could affect his score in a big way.

without speaking on his behalf... i think what he was getting at is that he didnt pick him up because he didnt expect him to exactly average this and wasn't able to accomodate another player who he would eventually have to upgrade, a move which perhaps hasn't exactly paid off but was one of the risks everyone has to take pre-round one

Re: Player Summary 7: J.Porpylyzia

Underwent (simulated) alititude training in the pre-season which shows that Craig obviously rates him as a future midfield prospect. Can get the hard ball, tackles and disposes well and is a good mark for a 181cm midfielder; 'the porpoise' has become a cult hero at West Lakes.

I don't think he is a genuine 22 game midfield prospect yet but I think he will get there soon, as his engine gets bigger. I can see him taking on a Mark Ricciuto role in the future - hard-at-it goalkicking midfielder.

His time in the middle might suffer a little with Knights and Reilly (round 9) back, but will still be a part of the rotation. Should spend the remainder of the game roaming the forward line as the crumber that every team wants, and Adelaide has been sorely lacking for years. A good kick for goal from set shots and on the run.

As Nebula said the other day, he is borderline for the 7th forward. Not an upgrade target IMO, especially considering the others (BJ, Brown, Cloke? etc) around the same price. Nearing the end of the season he maybe a good option for an upgrade if you can't quite reach the premiums.

I doubt anyone who had him from the start regrets the choice, but the porpoise has already bolted for those who don't.

Well, before the season started, i thought JP would improve with his scoring and with his opportunities such as more TOG but i never thought he would average more than 80 points for the year which is why i overlooked him.
After seeing him this year though, i think he may average around 85 points for the year which made him an excellent pick pre-season.

I missed the boat.
The boat was nearly sold out but i jumped on another boat instead named BRETT BURTON which was sold out in minutes. :D:thumbsu:

Re: Player Summary 7: J.Porpylyzia

Here are a couple of A-grade players who have excelled in their third year.
I think J.Porplyzia is a long way away in terms of talent compared to these two but that does not make a difference when we are talking about the third year player improvement theory.

Lance Franklin
1st: 51.2
2nd: 57
3rd: 78.8
(21.8 point increase)

Marc Murphy
1st: 75.4
2nd: 74.9
Now: 102.8
(27.9 point increase)
This figure is nearly certain to drop though as the year progresses.

In saying that though, a 20-25 point increase is not unreasonable for a third year player and going by that, i expect J.Porplyzia to average around the 80-82 mark, which was a little higher than i originally expected and a little lower than what i expected last week.

I think he is capable of averaging 85-90, but that is a very steep task as that will mean that his average would have increased by about 30 points this year which is a rareity.
