NICK STEVENS
He is 28 years old but by no means past the peak of his career.
I think he is right in it, especially with C.Judd revealing him of the tag each week.

With a career average of 3.9 marks and 2 tackles a game, he is not really the type of player who racks up the huge numbers.
I usually lock him in for 85 points a game and can confidently see him averaging around this mark for the season.
A gun midfielder would average more like 100-105 points a game.

However, he has increased in price by $99,100 and looks to have some more improvement still to come so his selection has been a huge success.
I am not suprised by these numbers and i have actually paid very little attention to them seeing as though everyone has him and has had him from the start.
Well, at least any coach with a brain larger than that of Sam Newman would. :p

I have chosen to do a player summary on him though to help us discuss and debate the thought of trading him?
My Verdict: Yes, after Round 14

INTERESTING STAT
N.Stevens has "never" averaged over 90 points a game in any season in his whole career.
This suprised me once i read this stat.

Furthermore, he is actually averaging higher this year than he ever has in his career before.
This suprised me even more.

Now, with all this being said, i think we can confidently say that N.Stevens is a keeper but not a premium.

This is my take on it.
Some will agree, some will disagree and others will remain undecided.

I think the midfield players fluctuate a lot in price due to quiet games being tagged or having injuries or whatever.
The midfielders always seem to go up and down in price, not as much as the forwards but they still fluctuate a fair bit.

With this being said, a 100 point player such as a D.Swan or D.Cross will usually drop below $380,000 at least once during the season.
If we are very, very lucky, we may even see a K.Cornes or J.Corey drop below this price as well.
We will never see a J.Bartel drop this low though.:p

So, an upgrade to a player of this ilk would see an increase in about 15-20 points which is worthy considering that it will come at a very cheap cost.

That is my thinking behind it and i strongly suggest looking at trading Stevo as the season comes to an end only if you still have the trades up your sleeve.

Yep, that surprised me. I had him pegged as a 100 ppg average player in years gone by. That reaffirms my desire to trade him out at some point.

I think the obvious link with improvement this year is Judd taking the tag, and Murphy attracting some attention too.

I think your Rd15 cutoff point is about right - 2/3rds of the way through the season; time to tidy up last required players and settle the squad. That or 375K - whichever comes first. I see Stevens as a handy 6th mid, but will be upgrading if I find myself with more than 6 trades at Rd15 and the cash to get a big name. With less trades than this (ie 4 or less at Rd15) I'll probably pull the trigger about Rd19 or 20, where I have less risk of needing to use injury trades, and in time to finish strongly with an extra 20-30 ppg. I can't see him in my squad come Rd22.

Re: Player Summary 9: N.Stevens

I agree that the reason why Stevens has never averaged 100 is that he has been the number 1 midfielder, attracting the top tagger every week. As we all know this year there is one Chris Judd who will take the attention of Stevens, and his scores has improved appropriately.

I actually think he'll score better from now on, started the season obviously overweight, and is looking fitter every week. He should average close to around 100 for the rest of the season.

I also agree that he is fine as a keeper for 6th mid, but you can spare the trade an upgrade is not a bad idea. I think this will also depends on whether you're playing for overall or leaugue honours, I'm focusing more on the league so I'll be keeping Stevens for as long as I can.

Re: Player Summary 9: N.Stevens

The decision on Stevens really rests on everyone's individual trading situation. If you have a few spare for upgrades, he could be used in a couple of weeks when his recent 100s have taken effect as they are not long term sustainable.

If your trading situation is tenuos Stevens could comfortably hold the 6 spot all season and average somwhere in the high 80s.

I'm looking to trade him out eventually but that will depend on trades as you said. I'm looking for the right moment and only after I have plugged the holes in the rest of my team. If the time doesn't come there will be plenty of options worse than keeping him. I'm happy to upgrade around him until there is a reason to move him on or a trade or 2 that can't be financed any other way. While he is scoring reasonably he is not a priority.

Shouldn't be at the top of anyones trading list. I believe that with Judd getting all the attention stevo has been able to roam free. he has cracked the 100 3 times this year and hasn't gotten a score below 80. Looks consistent and unless you have the luxury to trade him out to a bartel or kornes he is a keeper.
