U/18 National Championships

Good to see Tassie were far from disgraced when coming up against the power of the Div.1 sides. Tassie lead for a fair part of the game and only ran out of legs in the final term.

South Australia 17.6 (108) d Tasmania 9.9 (63)

GOALS
South Australia:
Johnston 4, Hartlett 2, Mardling 2, Hall 2, Cahill 2, Broadbent 2, McAdam, Lane, Blesing
Tasmania: McCullough 3, Cox 2, Robinson, Cornelius, Hislop, Allwright
BEST
South Australia:
O'Keefe, Armstrong, Martin, Cahill, Hall, Jones
Tasmania:
O'Brien, Allwright, Salter, Harwood, Robinson, Crichton, Milne

Good to see Salter and Crichton performing well as touted elsewhere on BigFooty. Robinson continues his good form, however Cornelius was kept to 1 goal by SA's Alex Stopp. McCulloch again impressed at CHF and marked strongly.

Still to come:

Round 2
Monday June 9
Tasmania vs Victoria Metro at Bellerive Oval 12:30pm

Round 3

Saturday June 14
Tasmania vs NSW/ACT now at Aurora Stadium 12:30pm (moved from West Park,Burnie)

Round 4
Saturday July 5
Tasmania vs Western Australia at Casey Fields 10am

Round 5
Wednesday July 9
Tasmania vs Victoria Country at Telstra Dome 12:15pm

Re: U/18 National Championships

Well done to the boys for what sounded like a gallant effort at Adelaide Oval on the weekend and good luck to them for Monday.

Heard a couple of interesting stories to come out of their weekend. Allegedly the majority of the coaching staff ventured out for a few bevvies the night before the game whilst the players rounded off their preparation with a quiet night. Whats wrong with that you ask? Shame the players preparations were interrupted by the same coaches who returned home stonkered and carrying on at around 2.00am the following morning.

Then the teams flight home was delayed for around 8 hours which gave some members of the coaching staff, with special mention to the head coach, the opportunity for a "hair of the dog" or thirty. Mellor was quite tired and emotional upon his arrival back in Hobart from all reports.

Just as well the players aren't showing the same sort of committment to the cause.

Re: U/18 National Championships

Are those official heights?

Mihocek is easily 190cm+ and Brakey would be 184cm.

Got them from the official AFL team lists dmc333. Would think this information would be very important for recruiters and the like, so should be pretty accurate.

Mihocek is taller than me Ken, and I'm 189 cm.

The only guys draftable from that list are Cornelius, possibly Robinson.

Don't let Cresswell, Wade, etc to tell you a whole raft will go - because simply - they won't.

Re: U/18 National Championships

The AFL Tas website has Mihocek as the same height and 1kg lighter (probably just snapped one off).

http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_p...ectionID=64617

As Quigley mentioned to you on another thread TFLUA-Tiger, Mihocek would be around or maybe a smidge under 190cm.

I've never met the bloke in person, so can't comment on his height.

Agree with you on that one Tiger, it seems even Cornelius is slipping in a lot of people's minds. Initially he was touted on BigFooty as a Top 10, but a lot have concerns about his height as a KPP.

Any chance you would like to have a crack at lisitng the Top 10 of them in 'draftable' order? I'd go:

1. Cornelius
2. Robinson
____________

3. Salter
4. Allwright
5. Williams
6. Milne
7. McCulloch
8. Mihocek
9. Cox
10. O'Brien

I'd also add Crichton, however I belive he is too young for this year's draft.

Not far off Ken but I doubt Milne has the level of skills required at this stage. I wonder if he is related to the Milne that Bill Williams kicked 6 goals on in a quarter on the North West Coast in the early 80's?

I am here to let you all know that Bart McCulloch will be drafted. The AFL clubs love him.....tall, athletic (national 800m/1500m finalist), can take a good mark and kicks ok! I think there are a few ?? over Cornelius and he may be dropping in rankings as much as Bart is rising.

I must admit, he was one I was thinking in hindsight should have been a little higher in my list.

Re: U/18 National Championships

What about Jacob Hislop? A creative midfielder, better footy brain than his brother but a bit less of a physical machine. Still recovering from his knee operation last year so hasn't been as effective.

I would expect to see about five blokes go to the AFL. This team won all three Div 2 games, and was okay against SA.
