Sorry if this topic has been covered before but I couldn't find any PES related threads via the search function.

I converted from Fifa to PES about 3 years ago and have been a huge fan of the PES match engine as it felt much more natural. There haven't been a lot of improvements in the last couple of PES releases and from what I have heard Fifa has been improving dramatically over the past couple of versions. I've always been one to choose gameplay over the bells and whistles so to be honest the lack of licenses and polish on the PES franchise really hasn't concerned me but if the FIFA gameplay has improved then maybe I should switch back. I haven't played fifa since around 05 so I really wouldn't have any idea how they compare now. Has anyone else played both recent versions? How do they compare? Has anyone converted from one game to the other?

Depends on the speed of the game and the like. Your best bet is to dl the demos when they come out and see how they feel.

I'm still on PES '06 to be honest. It's a great game and i haven't seen any reason to upgrade to either title.
 
I was the same, I was a dedicated FIFA man. Having played them all from like FIFA '98. Then in 2006 I went to the shops to buy FIFA 2007 for my PS2 - but they didn't have it. So I had to buy PES5. I was fairly dissapointed at the time. I got home, played one match and thanked God for showing the way to proper soccer. FIFA is so shit, so robotic, the goals are all the same, the player faces are shit, the player models are shit, the player animations are shit. PES shits all over FIFA except for one thing...Manager mode. If PES had a better system then gay 'ole Master League, then it would be the best. I have PES5 and PES6 and I can say no matter how good FIFA 08 was on Xbox 360 - I could never go back to the FIFA series.
 
If anyone thinks Fifa 08 is less realistic than PES08 then they need their heads checked. Maybe in previous years it might have been the case but not in 2008. Scoring goals in PES is a piece of cake. Way too easy. In FIFA you actually earn it and when playing a mate you normally get a soccer like score (PES you often get it to high scoring - 6-5 results etc)

In saying that I like to play PES more.

Used to love Fifa, till i borrowed PES 4 from the video shop. Played it, loved it, havnt played FIFA since. FIFA has absolutely nothing on PES apart from licenses. Couldnt give a shit about manager mode in FIFA, i play Football Manager for that

Although PES 2008 was quite a let down, the makers of the game admitted it and will improve on the next one i'm sure
 
FIFA 08 was all round a better game than pes 2008. I enjoy both for different resons. I think FIFA is great for its attention to detail and the gameplay is getting better, but I think PES has a more natural style of gameplay.

I'll be getting both this year, so I'll make a better judgement than. Im probably just a FIFA man
 
Haven't played Pro Evo since no 5, but Fifa 08 takes huge steps from previous versions. In 07 all the scoring is repetitive and robotic, but in 08 you actually have to build attacks up slowly and once you get up to professional/world class/legendary the game goes from average to hard to impossible, unlike 07 which was far too easy. Definitely a huge improvement :thumbsu::thumbsu:
 
I thought Fifa 08 was good, Euro )* was really good and from what I have read, Fifa 09 will be 'The One' that FINALLY puts Fifa on a par (or better) with PES. We will see I guess. OCTOBER hurry up.
 
I'm a FIFA man. I have both but i like FIFA better. anyway FIFA08 shits all over PES, and as someone said earlier, by the sounds of things, FIFA09 is going to be big.

Just a useless cutscene that looks the same every time basically.

FIFA needs PES gameplay if it wants to go somewhere.

People go from FIFA to PES and stay with PES. Rarely does the opposite occur.

PES 09 should be awesome. I quite liked PES 08 but I did see its shortcomings. PES 06 was better overall. At least Konami is persisting with the PC.
 
I was a fifa man on PS & PS2 all the way back to fifa 96, it was a fun game but I used to rage when the keeper would charge out to meet the ball from a long shot then just watch as it went past him for a goal.

still one of the best soccer games ever was fifa 98 "road to the world cup". I used to play it with my brother in law with 4 teams each all the way through the qualifications to the world cup final it took a long time but was unreal.

I had all the Fifa's until 2003 (including the world cup specials) then I bought PES3 & ever since then I have been a PES convert. I tried fifa 06 but it just can't cut the grade with PES.
