Adelaide Board ROTY Winner David Mackay!

David Mackay is the winner of the most closely contested Adelaide Board ROTY award in Bigfooty history!

After trailing Bernie Vince for the whole season a good game on a day to forget for the club saw Mackay pip him at the last hurdle.

Interestingly enough Mackay fared much worse than Vince in the POTY award, perhaps implying he played better in more games however when VInce played well he really had a big one.

This is a tremendous achievment by David as this is his first de facto year on the list after having last year practically written off through injury. This is also the first year I can remember a debutant taking home the award.

Special mentions should also go to the other players who polled in Bernie Vince, Kurt Tippett, Ivan Maric and Brad Moran.

As I notice the "We're too conservative" whine has broken out in another thread I thought i'd just put this comment here.

In my three years here I have never seen 3 players seriously contend for this award, never seen 5 players poll multiple votes and never seen so many players debut without getting a vote.

In 2005 and 2006 blokes like Otten, Campbell, Jacky and Dangerfield all would have gotten votes during their games. Hell, I've seen weeks where James Sellar's game would have gotten a vote

This is all by way of saying, on the ROTY front Adelaide had quite a rosy 2008!

Mackay has definitely had an impressive first year in AFL.
...i agree, the times have changed at the crows; and you would think next year's ROTY will be even more competitive than this years with more youngsters expected to be given a go.

This lad has class written all over him and was one of the few that enhanced his reputation in our final.

How good was that effort of his to kick that goal after a run from half back?

All class this kid, that goal on the weekend was awesome starting with the Porps like half volley pick up on the half back line. Gun.

Has Charlie Brown written all over him in my opinion. Bigger arms, more TOG%, this player will be a 200 game gun. That goal in the second half of the EF has truly put him up amongst the new elite players coming through.

What I like most about him is his disposal.

He seems to have time when he gets the ball, and then ususally does something good with it. Rarely is he just bombing it long.

For some reason ever since he started playing in the NAB cup he's reminded me of a young Tyson Edwards. Classy disposal, and always has so much time. Usually makes the right decision, too. Looks like being a ten-year midfielder with the potential to become exceptional.


For my money, the most impressive debut season from a Crows rookie since Johncock.

No disrespect to Tyson but IMO Mackay will become a tier 1 player & possibly one of the games elite midfielders.
(He is much much more direct in his play than Tys and has a better defensive effort too).

As for comparisons, he reminds me of Nick Stevens but with the plus of also being hard & inside.

just on the hair thing, someone should colour code DMac, NVB and Bernie... Dye one's hair red, one blue and one a brighter shade of yellow!
