Both have been told they will be traded for a key defender or a 1st round selection. Neither will figure in the Hawthorn forward plans in the future or are key defender material.

Carlton are very keen to take Thorp and are considering offering pick 6 while Melbourne and Richmond are very keen on Dowler.

From what I've seen, Thorp seems a bit aloof. Classy at times, but just doesn't seem to want the ball bad enough. Still young though, but pick 6 for someone who's not shown a whole lot at VFL level?? Jebus!

Dowler is simply not AFL capable. If the Hawks get anything for him, they'll be getting another win.

Two years ago he was pick 6, has played one game for five disposals. What has he done that would convince Carlton that he's worth the same pick two years later and two years older?

I don't know how credible this story is but I hope that Melbourne chase after Thorp. Whilst we wouldn't be giving up the #1 pick, I would be happy for us to give up #17 for Thorp in an instant. Hawks supporters don't want to lose Thorp & I know that he has recently re-signed for another 2 years. I think they would drive a very hard deal to trade Thorp & would be looking at top 10 pick.

We really don't need Dowler, apart from having no football talent, he is very introverted and we have a problem with being too quiet already.

It's unbelievable how Hawthorn can demand top picks in return for their dud recruits.

Seriously, JON has been a LOT better than Dowler in the VFL, and JON wouldn't get us a top 30 pick in a trade let alone top 10.

If the Hawks traded Thorp for pick 6 I'd be disgusted.

Spent two years getting over injuries and adding fitness and strength? What would the Don's want for Gumbleton? 5 games, 3 goals... 3rd rounder?

When did JON last kick 7, anyone got any footage of the game?

I can't attest to the validity of these claims, but let me just repeat something I seem to write everytime someone starts a thread on these two.

It really is getting annoying reading people talking about poaching Mitch Thorp. The only people who say it are those who have no idea about him or have not seen any of his games. To begin with IF HE WAS FIT HE WOULD OF PLAYED FOR HAWTHORN THIS YEAR. As it stands, he has spent the whole of 2008 with limited time and games at Box Hill. He is recovering from hip surgery he had at the start of the year and only towards the end of the year did he really look fit enough to run out a whole game. Of what little he played at Box hill this year, he did so primarily as a roaming centre half back, who, when conditions suited, would occasionally play as a lead up forward pocket/wingman. It is not as though he has been toiling away in the forward line, missing out on selection every week due to Buddy + Roughy.

On the proviso that he can get his first full preseason under his belt this year, he should be looking at playing a few games at Hawthorn in 2009 as a 3rd tall down back, or forward when required. Before cementing himself for 2010.

i think richmond should get dowler, quick foward with good size (192 cm) wat we need. Give them maybe and player (jon, schultz, pettifer or meyer) and a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Thorp signed on for another 2 back in August and ain't going nowhere. This year he finally get to do a pre-season and you will see him playing 1's next year.

Beau is still trying to find his ideal position. Started making in roads later in the season as a wingman. He may want more opportunities elsewhere

You would also expect Tim Boyle to request a trade and will most likely end up Carlton and play the 2nd/3rd tall behind Fev & Fisher.

You're putting up 4 players who are a chance to be delisted and a pick we wouldn't use.

Whilst I'm not here to pass judgement on Thorp, I will simply point out that Cain Ackland kicked 7 in a VFL game this year.

Enough said.

Now some facts on both .....BOTH PLAYERS HAVE HAD BAD INJURYS SO FAR,DOWLER,came to us with a broken pelvis and took along time to heal,12mths,so this year was his first full year, but was still tak,n pain killers at the start of the year, with say,n that his last 6-8 weeks in the seconds was great, play,n on the wing which for a bloke 6,5" was suprising.
Thorp again has had hip probs, which he has had opps on to recitifeand im lead to believe will take time to get right.............but he CAN PLAY.ask cat fans who watch,d him kick 7 on Harley at the cattery last year in the seconds........HAD,M ALL TALK,N
so with all that would be shocked:eek:if thay where traded!!!!
