He wants to be paid his contracted amount for next year.
Rama agreed to be paid a rookie wage for the season he missed.
You can only go on the rookie list if you are paid a rookie wage.
So Polak stays on the senior list and then will go onto the long term injury list to allow an upgraded rookie.

I know you usually offer nothing but poor trolls so you will excuse me if I ask for a source.

Given Hawker44's join date, recent posts on this board, and the fact that he made this thread and then left, I'm going to venture a guess on this being untrue.

Heard it on Sport 927 this morning.
Just a heads up.
It's a sensitive topic so not something you would troll or lie about.

Granted it isn't something a normal person would lie or troll about, but given your history on this board, I'll wait until I hear/read something official from the club.

Obsession

1.the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc.
2.the idea, image, desire, feeling, etc., itself.
3.the state of being obsessed.
4.the act of obsessing.

A month ago the club came out and said they wanted to keep Polak on the main list and would not be looking into rookieing him.

The club has handled this well.

if true - then a little disappointing - to me it suggest that Polly thinks he better get the money while its still there.

If the medical advice is a resounding "no" to him being able to possibly play football again (which we pretty much know thats the case) - then maybe we should just delist him. Really, whats it prove letting his name sit on the list when everyone involved knows he isn't going to play again. He will still get paid, and it doesn't mean he can't be a part of the club - and still train with the club if he likes. If he can get himself right - then we can just re-draft him next season.

but honestly, this draft year is too important to let someone sit on the list that is not a chance of playing again - having an extra pick next year wont help us, as it will most likely be in the 90's.:(

it really comes down to the medical advice - if they think there is only a 1% chance of him physically and mentally being able to be capable of playing competitive sport - then him sitting on the list for 12 months really doesn't make any sense at all. I thought the option of him being able to be rookied would have been a great incentive for him

i asked a mate of mine who is studying to be a doc, and his thought was that it would be very very unlikely.

i know it sounds rough to cut him - but really its not that bad. he still gets paid - im sure the AFL would allow him to still train with the club and receive medical help from the club - and if he did get himself to a position to play again, he could be offered a spot on coburgs list - and prove himself that way.

if all goes good there, we can guarantee we will draft him. i am pretty sure no other club would try and "steal" him away with a pick before us, as that would be pretty poor form.

if i had a terrible accident out of work - and my boss said i can get paid for 12 months in full, still come down and spend time with my work mates - and that if i can get myself into a position in 12- 18 months where i am capable of doing my old job - then i would be thrilled and very humbled that they held me in that high of regard.

lets not forget that rama and lonergan both proved themselves to be still capable of playing AFL after spending 12 months on the rookie list - if polly doesnt want to do it the same way, then one of his teammates shouldn't get sacked because of it - cos that is the fact of the matter. several of his teammates heads are on the block - and the only thing that may cost one of them their job is not that the club doesnt think they can be a potential player - but they just dont have a spot on the list for him

i thought the club was quoted in the press RT indicating he would stay on prim list with NO request made for rookie status, no doubt contractuals would have something to do with that

He is not in great shape, they are still seeking to have him on the rookie list next year, like they did with rama.
They are saying a 2% chance he will play again.

The figure was told to me by someone from the club, so thats what the club has been told/ knows about the condition.
I didnt ask but it sounded like they would keep him this year even if he didnt get the rookie list green light from the AFL.

I would love to see him play again as well, so i'm hoping he gets better.

This has been well documented by the club and handled in a very proffessional manner through all the nessessary avenues.

While there is still a chance he may play again they wanted to give him every opportunity to run out onto the field if he came good.

The club just wanted him to know they are 100% behind him and his rehab and im satisfied with this kind of moral stance taken by the club.

IMO it thinks it reflects a club with strong ethics and moral fibre to be able to do this for one of its players.

If you see or hear anyone trying to put another slant on this then ignore it as poppycock.

Yes, we could have an extra spot on the list but really the advantages are relatively minimal.

We could either draft a young speculative player at our pick 70something or we could be active in the PSD but by our pick, i can almost garuantee nothing worthwhile will be left over anyway.

With the club treading this path with Polak you would expect a rookie will given an opportunity right from the start of the year as Polak will be put immediately on the long term injury list.

We are literally using the rookie list this year with the thought that there's a real possibility of any one of them playing right from the get go.

The only downside as a club is the cost will be slightly higher than if we just re-rookied Polak but im very happy with the stance the club has taken.

Well done Richmond.

As a doctor, but not a neurologist, I would suggest his chances of playing again are unknown and would depend on a variety of factors, many of which are more or less unpredictable at this stage. His neurologist could give percentages, but these are generally not terribly useful for individuals for these types of injuries unless it is clear that he has suffered perminent disability. 2% seems like an odd number (sic) and I'd be interested in the source.

Generally he should have reached somewhere near his maximum recovery 12 to 18 months after the original insult if further invasive procedures are not required.

It sounds about right. Taking the cash out of the equation, its not a bad move by the club. He can go straight onto the LTI, allowing for someone like Collard to come onto the main list.

if this post is proven not to be correct - which so far it has shown itself NOT to be - please, please, please RED CARD him - how dare this troll start a thread like this - if not actually true:thumbsdown::mad:

what is so wrong with this being right? Id say it is spot on but probably went more like the club can't rookie him because because of his contract so its better to place him on the long term injury list and promote another rookie
