I notice Cockshell is training at Richmond and claims to have learned from his mistakes and that he is now a "changed man".

Of all the players delisted, Cockshell is the one that I think has the potential to really hurt us. Mobile, 198 cm, strong marking players who can break packs are not that easy to find. I don't expect Port to pick him up as I am reasonable sure that they would have given him enough opportunities to sort himself out but........

Does anyone else think Cockshell is worth another chance?

Quotes like that from these types of players annoy the crap out of me - they are so mentaly weak and child-like, it is frightening and sometimes you just wish they crash and burn.

I think it should be mandatory that any young player is show the 'arse end of the world' when they join and AFL club so that they appreciate the opportunity and give it 100% and not a half-baked, piss-it-up-against-the-wall effort.

All he ended up doing was to waste a place on our list for some other player who, given the opportunity, might have been able to grab it and make a career in the AFL.

Sorry about the rant, but it is an attitude that you get when you become an old fart.:D

Ill be pretty dirty if he does end up making it, dunno if he will though. He has all the physical tools...maybe he can make a better crack of it in Melbourne.

He was a terrible kick for goal because he started footy late in his life. If you are a project player you have to put in more effort because you are already behind the 8 ball. Barnaby French was commited to his training and worked real hard on his game. Cockshell was being made fun of at Norwood for his poor kicking and to do that at a time when he knew that he had a chance to get into the side and make an impact.

He won't burn us. His indiscretions were quite significant.

I would be surprised if he gets picked up elsewhere.

Substitute Ackland wherever you see Cockshell. Sure we wanted one as a ruck and the other as a forward but fundamentally the same story.

The best he can aspire to is being another Barnaby French......
I wish! I was quite the fan of Barnaby French. His only fault with us IMO was his staying involved in passages of play he should have backed out of and left to the on-ballers. Classically used to run out of options after carrying the ball into the forward pocket.
I never felt he played quite as effectively with Carlton. I know I am off-topic. Sorry.

i heard he was a w***er at training and none of the players liked him, also he rocked up one day drunk.

You could be right on this one Powerstuff. If I am consisted in my judgement of young players, then you will be spot on. At the time of Port drafting Ackland, I predicted he would one day make the All Australian team..

Took a while for the penny to drop for everyone with him. Turned up at my kids' primary school with Gilham one day, representing the club (when the club used to do that). 'Splinter' was fantastic. Ackland couldn't have cared less.
