Heard on SEN that he was also a tribunal member and state selector as well as doing everything you possibly could at Melbourne FC.

Most of this was before my time, I only remembered his eventful presidency, but Ian Ridley sounds like a true legend of the club. Condolences to his family and friends, and to all Melbourne supporters on this loss.

A true gentleman.

Was disgustingly treated as a scapegoat in one of Melbourne's darkest hours for doing what he genuinely believed was the right thing and the only possible course of action at the time.

one 5 premierships, with an average of 26 games played for each flag... pretty good strike rate... played in the '58 losing grand final against collingwood with a broken nose... if we won that one we would've had 6 straight, and he would've had a flag for every 22 games he played
