Something needs to be done by the AFL. Obviously the AFL and MCG must come to an agreement.
About 10,000 seats empty, its happening way too much,it surely isnt that hard to fix.

Re: MCC Members
MCC have the power over the AFL. They can't do shit.
I just find it funny how MCC people have to rock up at like 9am to get a good seat because they have no ticketing system? Crazy.

And can't even drink in your seat.
The bars are quite feral with people trying to down as many as possible before the game starts again.

Re: MCC Members
While the MCC is paying $40m a year towards the debts on the two stands, I think they have the right to do this.
And the ticketing is fine. You want a good seat, you queue. Those who want them the most will get them.

Exactly. I find it funny that people get angry about this. The only thing in reality they are angry at is that they are not MCC members or cannot afford to be one.
Seating system imo is the best in the land. Seats on level 2 and 3 as first come first serve works brilliantly and rewards those who want them the most, not just those who have the most spare time during the week to get reserved seats.
MCC membership is the best thing to have for footy and cricket. Best bars, people and seating.

Why? They pay for the right to have a seat even if a MCC member turns up to the ground for the last 5 minutes of a match to use it.
Was it deflating for you that more interest was shown by neutral supporters for Carlton vs Tigers than it was for the match today?

Yep thats exactly why i brought this up, not because of the 1000's of supporters from both clubs who were told no tickets were avaliable. Not me as I went today.
You have raised good points about payment ect, I just think for days that have full ticketed matches that they make avaliable tickets to MCC members for free up until the night before the game and then sell of the rest to general public.
You must admit it is pretty silly when there is a demand for seats, there are seats there but you cannot sit in that area, so it just remains empty. I have seen it opened up to public before, just not sure why it wasnt done today?
Why do people always turn things into petty arguments? I thought being such a classic finish its not really fair that some supporters got locked out when there were plenty of seats free.
Do MCC members really feel that powerful that they dont want any general public to sit in the area that they almost always avoid?

Well we avoid the general public often for a reason.
We pay a lot of money for the right to sit in those seats and the right to go to any game we want and not to have to inconveniently reserve a ticket so people who did not have to wait 15 years to be able to sit there can have a free ride.
The MCC is for premium viewing and has a very controlled crowd which creates a very good family atmosphere and superb viewing conditions. Allowing general public in would wreck all that and the MCC will risk tarnishing there name.
About the demand for seats.... What are you going to say the same thing for the club members who don't turn up, or the AFL members who don't turn up? Your argument is flawed as you talk as if they where the only empty seats in the ground.

Re: MCC Members
It wouldnt allow you to be mixed. Just open up that top bay where obviously no one wants to sit anyhow. I see your point, I'm just playing it from an outsiders view.
Most of the other seats were filled today. The glaring emptiness was to the right of the ponsford stand, if you were there today you would know what i mean. Its almost not attached to the MCC as it is.
And it has happened before that its been opened up for general public. Round 1 last year for instance, and also the carlton Collingwood match last year, so it does happen.

Re: MCC Members
I pay a good amount of money for a MCC membership, i expect a seat to every game except the grand final. Its not going to happen if they open it up to the public.
