Fishing Pole Rods

Found myself being given a Pole Rod from a friend today but no idea how to use it, and cant find much 'how to' info on the interwebsites.

Its 13 foot 3 inches long, periscopic and has a ring to tie line to at the tip of the rod.

What kind of fishing is this hardware suited too?

I think its a coarse fishing rod , more used in europe to catch carp http://www.course-fishing.freeuk.com/ they actually have large compititions with these rods try the link and also Utube coarse frishing should bring some results Cheers

Otherwise know as the wog pole. The basic idea is you tie a line on the end about the same length as the pole with the hook on the end. You fish off a jetty with it by dropping the bait in the water and lying the pole down flat. If you catch a fish you don't reel it in (obviously) you simply lift the pole to vertical and the hook with fish meets you as it swings in. Generally used by old school Italians who tend to use four or five of them at a time and take up as much fishing real estate as they possibly can and glare at anyone who looks like fishing withing 10 metres of them.
