Pratt was willing to donation about $100m to conduct a feasibility study, and to scope and cost the project, but there was a proviso that any project that went ahead would use special Visy plastic pipes.
Seemed very generous at a glance, but he was "donating" money in order to make a shit load of money.
Libya implemented a similar water pipeline many years ago, at a cost of over $US25 billion. Our pipeline(s) would need to be longer and capable of moving much more water, so doubt very much it will happen any time soon. Water recycling and desalination plants will be built long before massive water pipeline infrastructure.
