With big Harry in doubt, Second spot (hopefully) secured, and one of the next two games against Melbourne, is this not the perfect time to get some game time into Laidler?

Anyone else we should consider?

According to articles i have been reading it looks like they want to bring lonergan into the side, but personally i would prefer to see Laidler or McKenna get some game time, perhaps if Harry and Milburn miss then there may be a chance to get some game time into Laidler or McKenna. but as i said it appears Lonergan will be 1st option.

I'm sick of our midfielders plugging holes at either end of the ground.

We are pretty much assured of 2nd, and if not 3rd which is the same difference, and Saints percentage means we would have to win an extra two games than them in the run home to finish 1st which in all probability is impossible as the saints shouldn't drop two.

Play Laidler, McKenna, even Gillies if we need defenders in the side or Gamble, Djerkurra if we need forwards. Don't make the same mistake as last year FFS.

Who would play on the other one of Brown/Bradshaw? I am happy for him to get a game but not going body to body with one of those beasts. Bring him in for Dasher if he doesn't come up perhaps.

We must have promoted him with this possibility. He is a rookie and just like Mumford a decision must be made at years end. I agree with others , the time is now to fiddle a little and rest a little.
Taylor out replace with Lonergan
Milburn out replace with Laidler
Ling out replace with Djerrkura
Stokes out replace with Gamble

and I would like to see all these guys have a run thru the backline at some stage. Our backline is very sameish in height without Hunt and it would be worth a look at a different mix , especially with so many small forwards in the game now.

Gamble to me needs to find another trick or two. He is 184 cm , basically a shortish player , could he be used like Hinkley in our backline? Djerrkura just needs games and he could become a regular , maybe a hard back pocket player. Lonergan is not perfect but he adds flexablability , he can be swung back or forward and its something which we lack.

Don't mess with the formula...as much as it's important to give these kids mentioned above game time; i would'nt be surprised if it's minimal changes & not throwing fresh meat to the lions.
I expect a flat spot w the cats on saturday night, hopefully we'll have enough in the tank to get by and no more injuries.
Whilst this next point maybe worth opening another thread and w the ladder likely to change below us and other invariables; if by an unlikely chance we finished 3rd what would our likely finals match-ups be.......

I don't think the way to win a grand final is to rely on our rookies to win it for us. Yes, we might need one or two of them to step up, but with so many to come back in this would only be in a worst case scenario. If the worst case scenario eventuated, I don't think it would matter how much game time we have already given the likes of Laidler... If the worst case scenario happened and we went into the latter part of the finals series with heaps of injuries, I think we could say goodbye to 2009.

Variety is the spice of life.

A change is as good as a holiday.

I think a few fresh faces may help to liven up the place, keep the competition for spots ticking over. Most importantly though, i think we need to blood some good young defenders.

What about Gillies?

Im not sure if he is ready. At his height he doesn't help the small back player issue but if he is ready to go then I'd have objection to a game or two as long we have core of experienced backmen around him. For example Mackie/Milburn could be tried forward , and Gillies could play back with Scarlo, Harley,Enright , Mackie/Milburn, Wojo to support him.

Generally , I think Lonergan , Djerkurra , maybe Laidler are a little bit more mature and should be expected to show a bit more than Gillies

If Milburn doesn't play then give Laidler a run.Taylor would be replaced by Lonergan if he's not right.

For goodness sake bring back Lonergan, he's insurance either forward or back, he was playing well last time we saw him, good old bomber didn't perservere with him and he was gettin 20 pozzes a match.

If Bomber won't do that we may as well go after Barry Hall, at least we know he'd fire up and open the forward area for the smalls.

Wish they played Lonergan on Gardiner last week, last time I saw him he was backing into packs and all, then low and behold they drop him.
If they won't do that maybe give Laidler and Gilles a go.
Bombers' so boring.

I think i may have read Bomber Thompson's mind.

Very glad that we are playing some young key defenders, on good opposition, in an away trip to the Gabba.

Valuable experience times three.
