Assuming Gold Coast are going to stay in the competition for more than a few years, what are your predictions on the rivalry between Brizzy and GC in the coming years? Watching the Adelaide VS Port derbies, no love lost there, same goes with Freo and Eagles. Geelong Vs StK, Carlton V Collingwood etc Those games can be quite brutal at times. They fill the stands, excite the public and put on a good show. What are your thoughts?

Wouldn't of thought that there would be too much love there. They actually might have a few rivals depending on who they poach. If they poach one of our players - especially a favorite then I will want to burn them at the stake. Yer to be honest I couldn't give a rats about them but then that is just me.

The first SUNSHINE STOUSH (as a journo called it) will have to be held at the Gabbatoir anyway, so probably won't matter if its not a Lions home game. Lions crowd will intimidate the GC Wobbegongs crowd. :D

The only people pumping the QLD Derby concept will be the AFL, the media, especially whoever has the rights to televise the game and the administrators of Brisbane and the Gold Coast, who might sniff a few extra dollars in it.

The whole concept will initially be based on an artificial rivalry that may or may not develop into a true rivalry over time. As a Victorian based supporter, the game will be a complete non-event and I would view it as just another game. In fact, I am probably less likely to be interested because of the aforementioned groups who will be gushing about it.

As long as it does not degenerate into the pitiful and dull spectacle that is a crows vs port shitfight, then I'm fine with it.

I was thinking about starting my own thread, but this one looks good enough:

Why didn't / haven't the Brisbane Lions administration made extremely vigorous attempts to stop the dilution of the Lions brand by ensuring that Gold Coast did not take up our team colours???????????

Yeah, they were always going to take up gold, but red and blue as well? Brisbane people with not much of a background to footy may say red is not one of our colours, but anyone who knows about the history of our Club would know red has been a Fitzroy colour for a long time now (since 1975). And this of course is the reason Brisbane wear red in Melbourne (or are meant to).

Add to that that red and maroon are very similar colours, and it is just ridiculous that our Club didn't make a heap more out of this. Instead we put up the white flag of surrender and change our own jumpers without consulting the members. I am sure the adding of more blue to our jumpers as well as the cursed Paddle Pop lion was directly linked to Gold Coast coming into the competition.

Bloody cheese eating surrender monkeys!!!

Take a look at how Collingwood reacted to Port coming into the competition and how they continue to act to try to stop them wearing Black and White or mentioning the magpies. Yeah Eddie can be an over the top d$ck about it, but they have been overwhelmingly successful in protecting their Club's core image from erosion.

Perhaps Fitzroy should have made more of it when Adelaide came into the comp in 1991, but given their jumpers are so different, and that Fitzroy was administratively so weak at the time, as well as the fact that the colours reflect historical South Australian footy colours, maybe it is more understandable.

I have had these thoughts for a long time, but a little blurb in the paper today made me think of it again. Apparently Gold Coast are going to unveil their mascot and actual jumpers later this month. If they are largely red, instead of largely Gold then I will spew.

Yes they should be completely different colours, not just to us but from all other teams....I have followed the GC design a jumper thread, and there has been some good ones, but my favorite has always been the aqua and gold..

No other team has those two basic colours, and I feel they reflect the bright sunshiney blue sky with the gold of the sand..

Not good to follow along with the mix and match of the same old colours..

They should going for a whole new colour scheme......certainly nothing close to ours at least..

Not sure what will happen with the colours, but they are advertising heavily for a celebration dinner on July 22nd where they will unveil the name and jumper.

Hopefully the colours will be tweaked a little.
