A Large Portion, Yes
I dunno anything yet but wanted to start a thread.
(this is all inspired from my supreme armchair knowledge
so feel free to correct me)
U19s :
The young folk are up against St Bernards at our hallowed turf on Saturday. The #1 U19s team take on St Bernards, which is a second v third deal and needless to say of high importance. The second U19s side is having a much tougher time of it, with just the one win so far, and have Whitefriars to deal with, (though for some reason Whitefriars are only listed as having played half a dozen matches, and are located almost equal with the Roys on the ladder!)
Clubbies (Club XVIII (North)) :
The Clubbies head out the back oval up at Bulleen Park to take on Old Carey (that's kind of close to where the VFL Roys used to train in the summer, right?)
Fitzroy are 2nd on the ladder, way clear of Old Carey who are 6th. However, the Roys dropped last week's match to the North Old Boys, who arent positioned a hell of a lot higher than OC.
The double chance is on the line, as Fitzroy shares 2nd possie with Therry, while the minor premiership is out of range with old Essendon 14 & 0, three games clear.
Fitzroy Reserves :
The magoos have quite a match in front of them @ the Gordon Barnard, ahead of Old Camberwell by 2 matches but only one ladder possie. Finals are well out of reach ... Fitzroy are in 6th position and 4th is occupied by Old Geelong, with a lead over us of 18 premiership points and 80% ...
To oppose the senior season, the ressies had a promising early start to their 2010 campaign before the wheels came off, grew arms, rolled back and punched us.
But this one should be very winnable. Anyone able to wander down early can offer a helping larynx.
Fitzroy Seniors :
As Scribe has said below, Fitzroy basically cannot leave Premier C section by either exit anymore, so its all about getting solid with it, and of course trying as hard as one can to be beat the blokes you come up against on the day!
This Saturday, those blokes are Old Camberwell, who are going to finish anywhere from 3rd to 5th this year, but no-one would take me task for referring to them as a Final Four team.
Last time the Roys met the Camberwell team, we were right in the game for quite a spell, but couldn't pack them away and post them. With Old Camberwell doing basically what's required to make the finals while at the same time keep their own team just a tiny bit nervous about the dotted line below them, they are a good outfit with some highly potent pinch hitters. They'll be favourites.
On recent form, though, Fitzroy are easily the best team in the world at everything. With a giant-killing spree two weeks ago, and some torture pr0n of Old Geelong that apparently may not get past our upcoming internet filters, the Roys have a head of steam up and are ready to pull the chain. We can't reinvent the first half of the 2010 season, but we can feel very, very, content with the last half of it. That will require beating more sides and feeling more and more grouse.
I do believe the Roys will beat Old Camberwell. The ability is there and recent form says that such ability is not being wasted. OC do have the advantage of a home ground (Gordon Barnard Reserve, Balwyn and Belmore roads up North Balwyn way), and some very handy player stocks. But I think, as Joey Tempest once sang, the Time Has Come.
How'd I do? Vaguely decent guesswork?
