VFA Premiers v VFL Premiers 1967-87

What if the premiers of the VFA and VFL had played against each other during the period 1967-87 (before the advent of the national comp) in a one-off match to see who was the no.1 team in Victorian football-who would've won win the 'Battle of the Victorian Premiers?'

There would have been huge brawls - particularly the games involving Port Melbourne and Dandenong.

You would expect the VFL to have won each year and probably lose the fight, but I wonder if they would have played it a 16-a-side or not which could have reduced the end margin.

Yup

you'd have to go back to the 1940s to find sides in the vfa that were
competitive.

The vfa even lost to a country league team in the mid '70s

Agreed.

The Footscray and North sides from the pre 1925 era would have kept the VFL premiers honest.
