Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

Praying for a 26 or 29 to be a genuine slider, creating a really exciting vibe among the supporters and the board. Really hope its a KPP or Lycett.

A few years ago I wasn't that into the draft. Now I can't get enough of it.

Polec or Gaff, don't care, will be stoked either way, can't wait to see them in the first preseason game.

If we pick up a HBF or an inside mid I'll be pissed though.

I'm the same, I think it's due to the fact that a few years ago we had an awesome list that didn't have many deficiencies and we were playing in grand finals, now the draft is all we have to look forward to in the hopes we'll snare some decent young talent to put us back on top

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

This thread will continue for months, I predict E87 and EH to contribute the most with why we should of taken Polec over Gaff. :)

I have talked down Gaff's lack of defensive/ negative pressure and described Polec as a potentially "frustrating" player to watch due to his inconsistent nature.

As long as we don't select Darling at pick 4, then im happy. :thumbsu:

Advantage of picking up Gaff would be that we would be less likley to pick up Jamie Cripps over Newton.

I wanna see aggro on these boards!

Darling at 4 Woosh, you know you want to..

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

There's got to be something wrong with Kirk Ugle's beep test. He's a very talented player who plays midfield - no one could play midfield on that beep test result.
Actually, I'm fine with taking him at 26 or 29 - I originally had him down on my wishlist - Heppell at 4
Chadwell at 26
Ugle at 29
He won't be there for a rookie selection and he fulfills a need. We're not the only club sniffing around him so if we don't swoop, he'll be gone.

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

Surely Jordan Eades is the much better option? (just based on the videos of both)

Why exactly would we be less likely to pick up Cripps if we took Gaff? Incidentally, I'd see that as one of the downsides rather than an advantage.

Hoping for:

4 - Gaff (not so much hope, but we're going to get him).
26 - Cripps
29 - Chalwell

If we take Gaff and Polec turns out to be the absolute gun that WC needs i'm going to cry

Pick 4 is so vital for us in our quest for our next flag. This kid has to be a superstar.

No pressure or anything..

How about if we take Polec and Gaff turns out to be an absolute gun? That's the thing there are no guaranties. It does really suck when you overlook a gun and get an average player. Imagine how Richmond supporters feel.

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

Just a few points after reading xxxx amount of posts.

I do like what I hear from Gaff. Speaks well and you can tell he is very professional. However is it just me or does/will he fill the same role that Masten is meant to play??
Both gut run as good as any on our list currently, relatively small, quick but not blistering (from reports) and have shoddy kicking over 50 (from reports).

Also the reason why I think we should draft Heppell is that we don't have many with 'elite' kicking. Sure we have quite a few with good kicking but not many with the Hodge/Goddard type that is just deadly.
Are we still trying to push Hurn up to the wing? as a HB line of Heppell/Brown/Shep is mighty fine.

I'll cry then too
I couldn't be a freo or richmond supporter. Over the years they have made such shocking decisions. WC usually picks the right player so whoever they pick i'll take as the best available.

Two things;
1. Masten is much more inside than Gaff. Masten does some of his best work in the clearances (if he ever gets a chance in there). Gaff is more of a linker type who will get the ball from Priddis/Masten and distribute cleanly and correctly from congestion and then keep running to link up the next play.

2. Heppell is a better kick than Gaff but not by much. Its certainly not that Heppell is Hurn-esque and Gaff priddis-eqse like you seem to be implying. Heppell's kicking is overrated for mine. Its good but not outstanding on the level of Hurn etc (or anywhere near that level)

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

4: Polec
26: Darling
29: Pitt

RD: Eades/stevens Houlihan

That would be unbelievable.

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

If Darling slides to pick 26 their must be more to it. It really isn't going to happen. Key forwards are taken high.

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

Two years ago East Fremantle 16s combined side went through undefeated in the 16s WAFL carnival. Those boys went on this year to win the colts GF by 7 goals. Minus from that side was David swallow, Jamie Cripps, Alex Fassollo, and Justin Monarco.Add potential draftees :Tyler Chalwell, Sam Menegola and Jayden Schofield and that team of 16 year olds from 2008 could have 7 players drafted including the No1 draft pick- not a bad side !!

Re: Draft discussion thread Pt 2 - Three sleeps to go!!

My ulitmate;

4: Polec
26: Green
29: Chalwell

PSD: Houlihan, Rookie Ruckman

We need not only outside mids but hard running ones that can kick goals. Since Judd and Cousins left we have suffered badly with a midfield that just doesn't seem to get into good spots inside 50. Add Shuey, Hams and Strijk to that and our midfield could be kicking 6-10 goals a game.

With the new sub rule I think Chalwell is a perfect pick. Can go fwd or back and has most of the skills of a mid, plus with his jump he can play a pitch hitting ruckman, might even grow a bit more!!!
